I just started farming. is there any information available on how long each plant takes to grow? Is there a way to not instantly harvest plants for nothing if you accidentally click on them? Is there any information what breeding does or how long it takes? I'm pretty in the dark and the game doesn't seem to explain much unless i'm just not finding it.

I don't think that there is a tutorial in the game. It is still early access, and the build is .5, not 1.0. That being said, plants take 24 hours to grow, and you can breed plants for as long as you want to. Breeding them gives yield bonuses to the plants bred. There are only 4 plants that yield turn ins for speed and efficiency so far in my playthrough. What I do is cycle those 4. I will grow one plant type and breed the next two for 24 hours. Then I harvest, plant the next type, and I breed the next two. rinse and repeat. I nearly have all of the upgrades after about 3 weeks, but I also got lucky spins and had enough AP to buy additional planters.

Growing, a plant will grow for up to 24 hours. If it's at all like NGU Idle, then the amount you get from a plant harvest increases every hour of the plants timer. If you aren't going to be online when the 24 hours is up, harvest as close to right after an hour mark on a plant and replant immediately. I don't think (haven't tested) that you get any more for 24 hours than if you did 24 perfect 1-hour plantings, so it shouldn't be an efficiency loss.

Edit: Boy, I really ought to test this myself rather than declare it to be the case...

Breeding takes 2 plants not being grow, and increases their yield stat over time. They can be bred for a maximum of 7 days, and I think the yield increase changes at the 24-hour mark (just a hunch). Again, I haven't tested, but I suspect that a 7-day breed won't improve their stats any more than 7 1-day perfect breeds.

If you click a plant early by mistake, then quickly quit and reload the auto-save. if you are lucky, it didn't auto-save within the last few seconds and you can pretend the click never happened.

That's from the wiki:

Plants require at least 1 hour to produce rewards, and grow to maximum size after 24 hours. Their rewards scale with:
(Time Spent Growing / 24 hours)^1.2 * Plant Buffs * Poop Bonus

Breeding works similarly to planting, but takes 7 days for full effect. Their rewards scale with:
(Time Spent Growing / 7 days)^1.2

Aka, the longer the better the reward, since thanks to the ^1.2 it scales better than linear.

Right, it makes sense then to be better than linear. Forget my post.

In the farming upgrades, what does "tag weighting" mean?

Ok first of all... HOLY CRAP THERE ARE UPGRADES PURCHASABLE WITH FARMING MATS? How the heck did I miss this before now?

Most likely the tag weightings it refers to are the tags you can apply for research. You can pick a tag that makes certain tiers of research upgrades appear more often than others. This improves the weight to make the tags more effective.

as warlord mentioned, it is for the research filter upgrades. to be a bit more specific it increases the chance that research of the selected tag(s) show up. They have a base of 2x and can go up to 4x with max farming upgrades. So with the base tag bonus you are twice as likely to see the tagged item(s) and with max farming research you are 4 times as likly to see it. Since you can not pick the same tag twice (if you have spent arbitrary points to increase your tag slots) this doubles the effect the tags making one tag act like two.

the same way i missed it i would think, by not noticing the little grey box in the upper left hand side that has no image or call out to it that EVERY OTHER menu switch in the game has

I currently see enough farming upgrades to go up to x5, so I would have guessed that the cap is way higher than just x4

I luckily read the patch notes, so I knew about the farming upgrades, even before he released the update, since he gave us the patch notes a few days in advance.
