How to Fix/Slow the Basement Rush Meta
We all know by now the basement rush meta.

You start as victim, you spam E to get off the ropes. Then you run straight to a toolbox and spam E, get the lockpick then rush out the basement instantly. You can do something similar with bonescraps to get them really quickly.

So, how do we fix it?
First, to fix basement rush meta, we have to fix the two issues it has:

First problem: people are spamming E and waking up grandpa at the beginning of the game, making stealth and proficiency a lot less useful at the start.
Solution: When the maximum noise is made while gathering items or removing yourself from the ropes at the start of the game, your progress will reset back to 0. You also cannot make any progress for 1/2 seconds after reaching maximum noise as well.

This change will buff stealth and proficiency. It will make some survivors like Ana and Leland much weaker in the basement, since they can't rush out the basement nearly as quick. So, when you reach maximum noise, progress is reset on gathering the item, forcing players to be more stealthy.

Second problem: victims with high stealth and proficiency can still basement rush (like Julie and Connie) because they will never meet the maximum noise for gathering items.

While the second problem is an issue, I wouldn't change anything to address the second problem until the first problem has been fixed. If Leland, Ana and Sonny can no longer rush as fast as they can, then only half the victims in the basement (Julie and Connie) can now basement rush. It will mean that Grandpa awaken far less often than before because he will now mostly awaken when the basement door opens, rather than noise made by victims. Given that Connie and Julie have no survivability, and are really vulnerable, I think that is justified given their weakness is surviving.

But, the simple fix is: noise generation is increased by 15% in the basement. That way, even victims with high stealth, will be a lot harder to basement rush. This debuff should only apply in the basement to prevent basement rush.

TL;dr
When gathering items and removing yourself from the rope at the start of the game, make progress reset to 0 when making the maximum amount of noise and prevent further progress for 1/2 seconds after.

Ummm, getting out of the basement is the entire point of the start of the match for victims?
Do you want victims to chill downstairs for a bit?

Yes, that's the intention.

So the problem is: you're playing family, and the second you load in, grandpa has awakened. Everyone is spamming E on the toolbox, spamming it on the bone scrap pile, and there is no stealth whatsoever in the game. So to make the game much more stealthy, slow down players actually rushing out the basement, a great idea is to reset their progress.

So, family won't be loading in the game, and seeing Grandpa already awake. Basement should be much slower than it is right now. Basement rush meta is not healthy for the game.

I don't agree with that debuff.

Like if you have Leatherface, Cook Johnny on your team, you won't benefit that much. Plus, if you made that change, and Family has Hitchiker and Sissy, then the game will be extremely difficult, if not unplayable, as Victim.

My goal is not to make the game much harder for victim. The goal is to slow down the game in the basement.

It's not about making the game harder. It's about making the game slower for victims and family.

The difference between your suggestion and mine. With my suggestion, if the victim makes noises, they lose a lot of time as punishment. While with your suggestion, they don't lose time, rather, they have an increased risk of dying, which I don't think is necessary.

Honestly I think every family member except for Bubba should start playing when victims do, Just so they can prepare upstairs.

An extra 15-20 seconds would be useful for the family, but would an extra 15-20 seconds really solve the issue that much? I would imagine people are still going to use the same basement rush meta, except now Family might have their traps and blood collected, but I can't see much difference than right now.

Personally, I just think it makes no sense why victims are rushing as hard as they do now. The only way to stop that is using the suggestion I made in the first post above.

Well victims are rushing towards the basement doors because that's literally all we can do down there. The main objective down there is to get out of the basement. At least now the family members upstairs have their stuff ready.
Maybe they could add more things down there for the victims to do.

what about adding a penalty to the health for trying actions too quick (yanking yourself right off a hook is more damaging i would assume) "fist punching" things to open them would also take a higher toll on your body, seems a little bit of a realistic approach

One big problem is there is nothing to do prior to basement escape. You gather a tool, pick the door, and tend to do everything else up on the surface of the map. One solution would be to remove a vast amount of the surface level resources available to the victims, forcing them to spend a little more time gathering the necessary tools in the basement. This penalizes early wake ups since now the family can go into the basement while the victims still need to gather tools and bone shards. Another way to stop super fast matches would be to move those surface tool spawns away from what they are used against. Gas Station Car Battery has a tool box right next to a gate that needs to be unlocked. Why? Slaughterhouse Car Battery has a tool box right next to the gate that needs to be unlocked. Why? Move or remove these resources to be central on the map or off in an unimportant corner.

I actually disagree with this. When I have played victim, it is extremely annoying when your team mates make lots of noise, then the family come down into basement and screw the entire match up. We need a way to make sure that grandpa doesn't wake up through making noise. We need an idiot-protection for victims.

Good then they can be the distraction while I get out. I get tired of people waking up Grandpa super early only to die when the rest of the family storm the basement before we can even get a door open.

Yes, we do indeed to make the game idiot proof so you don't get screwed over by your team mates.

it's better to wait in the basement until they collect blood for grandpa to get him to level 5 faster :borbat:

It's better to have an exit open before you wake grandpa up so the entire team don't rush down there and kill you with no way to escape.
