Ambushing, at least from a stealth perspective, ain't a thing. It's pretty unfortunate.
Yes, there is, but it's a reduction of the proximity radius. The second they see a bit of yellow, you've likely lost your opportunity for free hits, as they'll be too aware and ready to sprint away. Also remember that your family member actively sells out their position by talking, singing, etc. and there's no perk to stop it.
