How long before servers are shut down?
Evil Dead just got the Axe after being out for a year, officially dead. Not a single Asym game has managed to survive, let alone compete with DBD. Single franchise games are doomed to fail. We are in an era of disposable game releases.

Why are so many of you people OK with investing time and money into a game just to have it be shut down and unplayable within 18 months? Maybe if we buy the $16 skins and $7 animations, we can fund the game for a bit longer. Perhaps buy multiple copies of the game too. If you want this game to succeed then send them money. You can sell a kidney for $10K so there is no excuse.

Oh, I missed that news. Guess I'll go ahead and move ED to the "Officially Dead" column. Deathgarden, Hide or Die, Last Year, RE:Resistance, and the rest will happily welcome another friend.

And with the daily peak plummeting on Steam, yeah, TCM (on PC, we don't have console numbers) will soon follow.

As for "why are you all okay with [wasting] time and money on a game that will be shut down"? Well, I for one get more than my fair share of playtime for price paid. And that's what it boils down to - time vs. cost. If I can manage an average of $1/hr playtime, I consider that fair. And I've logged well over that in TCM.

They could shut down tomorrow and I'd have gotten my money's worth out of it.

From what I understand of Evil Dead the servers are still active but they're not going to update the game any more.

Pretty soon with no cross-play, lack of content and a overpriced skin to come out soon.

its gonna last a year. given how bad some of the decisions were in this game i won't be buying anything in the future from Sumo or Gun.

by the end of next year

most of this is just stemming from them removing crossplay. completely stupid decision and it doesnt seem like they're changing it back any time soon. game is already hemorrhaging players. never seen a game handle it this way and its laughably atrocious & you can already see what they're moving on to prioritize now

it was amazing and fun the first two weeks. I feel bad for everyone who missed it

True words here sadly, I had little faith in Gun Media after their previous failures, guess that game was my last mistake

My guess 11-15 months.

Servers shutting down will probably take awhile, but I'll consider it "dead" in around a year.

The removal of crossplay was such a terrible decision, I hope the alienation of their PC user base was worth it for all those gamepass users that will forget about the game in a month and move on to whatever is popular next.

Just enjoy it while you can and play a new game afterwards
RoaR Sep 28, 2023 @ 8:24am
I'll be surprised if it has more than 1,000 concurrent players by the end of the year

this game is way better than evil dead and if they update it and enable crossplay we will see numbers go up, unfortunately they seem to be making the same mistakes as the DBD devs, babying crybaby killers who are bad at the game, nerfing stuns by giving them 10 second immunity was a stupid decision, meanwhile leatherface can literally 1shot you out of the game as soon as you start the match.

They ain't bringing crossplay back. Don't trust this dev next time they release a game.

considering Gun is the same company that created Friday the 13th, then proceeded to ban users from co op, based on fake reports from boob streamers, forcing players to decide if they want to buy ANOTHER COPY, or abandon it forever with no refund, I'm surprised anyone bought THIS.
As tempted as I was, I probably won't buy it myself, but I know one of my weirdo friends will probably buy me a copy for Christmas or something >.<

they are disposable because their is no way to link multiplayer sessions outside of their databases. that is without hardcore hacking.

I'm not sure why they dont just add a feature to allow IP connecting and move progression to local files sunsetting them, i mean if they no longer care about the game they arent going to be banning anyone or care if someone hacks their save file. doing this would still allow a small number of friends to play in a real P2P session and not a theoretical half p2p setup which will go offline when they stop paying for hosting.

I dont expect them to continually support the game forever, but i expect the game to function when they abandon any further changes and drop any of their services
