It works with a PS5 controller I've used it to play but it will only show Xbox buttons.
I remember enabling PlayStation controller in Steam a while back so you might need to enable it first.

Right click the game in your library > click Properties > Select Controller option on the left > there will be a hyperlink in the text at near the top, “Controller General Settings”, click it > Toggle “Enable Steam Input for PlayStation controllers”.

Unfortunately it does show the Xbox buttons only. Flabbergasted that showing the correct buttons is still an issue in 2023
