Sonny is very, very far at the back of popularity. Doesn't mean he's never picked, but I think he might account for half of all the cutscene-deaths I've seen, with most of the rest being Julie and Ana, the occasional Leland, and Connie cutscene-deaths being countable on one hand. Sonny is honestly not terrible or unusable, but he has an extremely awkward stat distribution that doesn't easily lend itself to any particular role, and his ability is relatively subtle and awkward compared to any of the others', and it only really starts standing out when you grind it to Lvl 3 and reach a capstone.
Julie I would say is the second-least-popular character, well ahead of Sonny but noticeably behind the other three. Which I put down pretty much entirely to her ability not being as flashy as the others. Because Julie is just... transparently a good character, she's essentially a Connie that trades sheer psychotic lockpicking efficacy for being able to much more efficiently run away from the Family when caught. Her stat distribution is very good for these purposes, and her ability is extremely useful at helping you get out of a tight situation... either giving you just that bit of extra stamina you need to get to the next chasebreaker without getting mauled, or breaking the tracking of a Cook/Johnny that is relentlessly hunting you (something no other Victim can do).
That's just not true. She's good for sure but Leland is better because his power is so much better.
You can build him as an extreme lock picker and if you get in trouble you just stun the killer chasing you.
I play Julie when Ana and Connie are taken and she gets the job done. I spread out her attribute points towards endurance and proficiency mainly and the leftover attributes I put towards stealth and toughness. I run No Sell, Slippery and Choose Flight on her so that build with her unique ability lets me be super evasive and good at breaking chases while still doing objectives efficiently. She's my second personal favorite to play next to Connie.
Ana
Leland
Julie
Sonny
Best is a tossup between Ana and Connie depending on your playstyle (tank or objective/unlocker).
Mostly just play Julie since she's a qt (and with her amazing stat spread she's pretty much a mini-Connie anyways) and Ana.
Connie - best at lockpicking and rushing to exit
Ana - tankiest character and has a regen build so survive way more if being chased 24/7
Leland - best brawler where you can use his strength to keep anyone at bay
Julie - masterful getaway ability and highest stamina to escape if caught
Sonny - most underrated and sneakiest character with his ability choosing optimal escape
