Does sprinting actually work?

Im playing Julie who is supposed to be able to run fast and a lot, and when I hold space bar she sprints for like a second and then it goes back to normal running.. I really don't get it man, even if I have a lot of stamina left
Johnny caught me while I was running as fast as I can with Julie and stamina in astraight line

I really feel like sprinting does NOT work

You need to spam spacebar to sprint, not hold.
