Access upper left of map?

I seem to have missed something and have reached wit's end. I've gotten 4/5 shards, and found 4/5 nests. I can't for the life of me seem to figure out how to gain access to the upper left of the map. I thought perhaps it would be unlocked by getting the shard in the upper right, so I've done that, but nada. I've tried Googling various things but none of the results actually say HOW you get there, just go there. Ever since I got shard 4 I've been walking all over the map trying to find the access point that gets you behind the gates but to no avail. Any help, clue, or assistance you all can provide would be most appreciated.

Hi, you should be able to get there when the gate next to Octavia's Lab opens. Fast travel to the teleport next to Octavia's Lab, then go north, past the gate and exit to a new overworld area to the west. You should come across a lake that you can swim across or go under to reach the last biome.
