thats an invalid reasoning in 2025, there are loads of games that have a tag single player but are "always online" ....
Yes. Players can choose to play the game solo on their own machine. As long as the player has a working connection to the back end, their stats will progress. If a player does not have a working connection, the game will use the last known stats but will not progress.

Offline progression would be nice but considering you need internet to even access the game to download it…it is a fair trade off as once the stats are loaded to your profile they stay there permanently until there is another internet connection.
At least that is how past games worked
