Killing Floor 3

Killing Floor 3

Recommendation - Delay the Launch Date
If the closed beta is any indication of what we are going to receive in March, I can only recommend delaying the launch for late 2025 and focus on the polish.

Does KF3 have potential? - YES
Do I agree with the negative feedback? - Constructively, yes. Overall, No.
Was Unreal Engine a bad choice? - YES, it normally is. Giving all games that UT3 look and feel.

What do I believe need improved
  • Music - It has KF elements, but lacks the power, energy and feel that KF2 and KF1 had. Maybe hit up Mick Gordan, he's not working on Doom Soundtracks these days.
  • Optimisation & Graphics - This is expected at beta, however the weapons, textures and maps all feel very bland in comparison to what we have had in KF2. It all feels a bit washed out and missing character.
  • Weapons Design & Feel - As with the graphics, the weapons feel bland and washed out, mostly blocky shapes with minimal visual difference between what is supposed to be a starter weapon and what is a high level weapon. In terms of sounds, the shooting starts to sound generic after a while and I couldn't tell you what weapon i'm using just from the sounds easily. Overall, the feel of shooting is ok, but needs more punch (screen shake helped).
  • Weapon Options - The limitation to 4 weapons in the weird UI they are there currently personally irks me, having come from KF1 & KF2, we had a lot of options each with a more unique element to them.
  • ZEDS - I'm feeling a bit mixed about, they are difficult to identify compared to KF1 & Kf2 and the animation of a fleshpound doing some weird slenderman movement through windows takes the power feeling away. The FP's really need some extra steroids and staunchy movement to give them a stronger feeling. On a different note, what is with the walking jack in a box for a siren? It just makes them a laughing stock.
  • Spawns - These feel very easy to control and force spawns of ZEDS to come from specific directions, meaning you barely have to watch your back. A good example is in the city, holding in the lowest part of the map where the Zeds cross a bridge. They ALL seem to spawn across the bridge aside from a few crawlers.
  • Character Voicelines - There's no energy or humour to them. It's extremely disappointing as it always filled the time between waves, or added to the feel during a wave. If you're feeling lazy, just rip them direct from KF2..
  • Gore System - It's both enjoyable and disappointing at the same time. I miss the gibbing of zeds which had limbs flying everywhere to give zeds that really dead feeling; but I'm enjoying the extra blood and limb removal whilst they are alive.
  • Movement - The dashing feels unnatural for the game; plus the jumping strafing feel seems to be slightly off, along with the vaulting being inconsistent. However the vertical movement is a nice change.

What needs removed?
  • Character specific specialisations - This is a given and the FAQ written on it even reads as if the writer knew it was a bad idea. We have our choices of characters and can easily tell who is playing what based on the weapons they use in the match. PLUS by the time you have played a round or two, you already know which character was filling which role; or when partied with friends, you knew who looked like what and what they would play (not to forget the obvious icon next to their name).

What i'm enjoying?
  • The Hub - It's a nice change and will be great when partied with friends as it'll give that Darktide vibe to goof around whilst the mission is being selected
  • Missions - This is a nice touch and like that it can be expanded per season to keep us playing.
  • Armoury - Although i dislike it slightly, I do like the idea of being able to have specific mods on my weapons down the track.
  • Perks System - Look it's not KF2 perks, but it has potential and could be a nice change.
  • Season Pass Element - Whilst not everyone cup of tea, the game needs to be sustainable and it's not a bad way of doing it, as long as each pass has some real value to it and not on a FOMO setting.

Overall, if the game launches in March and is like this; I will be giving it a miss until it's fixed. Which personally, I feel TripWire should delay the launch till the end of the year, take a month to sit back and actually compare their previous games to this and fix it up.

If not, I can see this launching with mixed to negative reviews, as the franchise has garnered a lot of expectations for a 3rd release that it'll end up in a pile of disappointment.
We have Payday 3 as a prime example.

I understand why some people are enjoying the game, but there's a lot to be desired when it's Killing Floor.

Yes it should be an Early Access launch. But woops can't do that cause this game is made for Consoles primarily. That's why there is no Text Chat.
Honestly adding crossplay was a terrible decision. Back 4 Blood had it enabled and it was a nightmare.
