IMPORTANT: Steam Deck Launch Guide (use Proton 8.0-5)
To all Steam Deck users out there.

While we hope that the game will automatically be forced by Steam to use a particular version of Proton when launching, this post should be helpful to all of you who encounter issues with stability on Steam Deck after release (or with the free demo).

The game should be always launched using Proton 8.0-5

This can be set in the game's properties window under the compatibility tab.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/steam-deck/change-proton

We're sorry for the inconvenience, as we could not figure out how to solve it on our end, but our tests using Proton 8.0-5 have shown us that this workaround solves the issue of the game freezing shortly after launching the game.

We hope you'll enjoy playing Sumerian Six on Steam Deck! :steamhappy:

I tried on my Steam Deck 512 GB original version this morning. I'm using the "Steam Beta Branch" of the SteamOS and the software is up to date as of this writing.

I installed the game and tried to run it WITHOUT ANY ADJUSTMENT. I was able to play seamlessly the tutorial (I stopped just before the Cable car building).

I noticed few seconds of frame rate drop(visually) at the very beginning as the game was finishing to load. But the short run was totally fine.

I didn't have time to do anything else.

Hey, thanks for that!
It is possible that in the meanwhile, Valve has done something on their end. We requested help with that a while ago.

In any case, if it does not work automatically for anyone else, the guide still applies. :)
Now I need to grab my Steam Deck from the office ASAP and check for myself. xD

Hi there, unfortunately still crashing for me after switching to proton 8.0-5, it just doesn’t even open

Just another datapoint on Arch Linux, not SteamDeck, but with both latest proton and 8.0.5, the game and Xorg got to top CPU utilization and system slows to a crawl.

Running Arch too but the CatchyOS Distro (kde \ wayland \ steam native (Beta Familly version)\ Catchy proton). It's all optimized for you :-). Sorry my Gentoo,*BSD, LFS and hours of compiling \ "optimizing" days are behind me. Played for almost 30 min with no issues to report. Btop Show a 30% CPU and it just max the GPU nvidia gtx 2060 on a Razer 2021 laptop.

Has anyone else issues with the Deck ?

note: I'm using that rather exotic disto because after month of trying different ones, it's the only one that allows me to use 3 monitors with a [linus finger] NVIDIA Card [\linus finger] without freezes out of the box. (still happens but more predictably and rarely)

Any version of Proton does not helped. It totally freezed my Deck and i have to use hard reboot each time. I've just deleted this ...game..

Can confirm it runs better using Proton 8.0-5.

Initially I tried the demo using Proton Experimental, which launched without crashin but with slowdowns and random audio stuttering. Just tried again, very briefly, with Proton 8.0-5 and it runs much faster - noticeably so.

Edit runs much better initially but audio stuttering starts to happen after around 20 mins of gameplay. I didn't notice any gameplay slowdown.

Its a Steam Deck 512GB, with Sumerian Six Demo installed on the 1TB SD card I'm using - that card speed is whatever spec Steam recommended.

OS: 3.6.9 build 20240814.100
I'm currently on the beta OS channel.

I'm a recent fan of this genre after playing the Mimimi games, Shadow Gambit first then Desperados III (both of which I loved) now the first two - the shadow tactics ones - although I'm stuck on a level at the moment so will get back to it at some point. I played those games probably 80% or more on Steam Deck and think this genre lends itself perfectly to playing that way.

Since update 1.0.2a (GOG) the game crashes on Proton!
