My generator catches fire when I try to restart
So I manage to run the plant for almost 5 days now without blowing it up, finally... lol

And I had to make my first shutdown for maintenance... so I turn everything off, including my generator, and I sent AO to do all the repairs. My idea was to save fuel while I was waiting for him to finish. He's done now and I need to restart everything again, so I made a save file just before turning the generator back on... (which was the best idea I had so far in this game, without knowing).

I'm saying this because no matter how I try to turn the generator back on, it will start a fire...I tried disabling the batteries: fire! I tried enabling the batteries first, then the generator after: fire! I tried it on Manual, Automatic... with batteries, without batteries... a few switches on, all switches on, all off....no matter what I try, it will catch fire after running for a few seconds.

How can I start everything again without making the generator to catch fire? What should I have "on" or "off" on the main panel of the generator room? I love getting stuck with this things and solving the problem on my own, but this time I'm actually stuck :steamhappy:

Please help! :)

How many loops. I found the gen caught fire If I tried all the loops. SO I started with loop 3 got it stable generating power and then started loop 2 and 1. But I am on easy as I am trying to get used to the protocols and such

I think you're talking about the electrical generator, that massive one on ground floor... which is not what I'm talking about lol :steamhappy:
Maybe I expressed myself wrong, but I'm talking about the generator on the second floor, above the control room. I have all 3 loops installed now, but I was running 2 loops before the shutdown and I'm playing on Normal mode.

You kept it running too long. Once the reactor is up and generating stable power you should turn it off.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the generator itself is damaged.
Have you tried upgrading it?
I've never seen it burn and I also turn off the plant entirety, including batteries when doing long maintenance.

Edit:
Or maybe it's some broken fuse somewhere. Idk, never had issues with them so far.

The backup generator (especially the crappy stage 1 generator) has a limited amount of power it can provide. If you start it up while you're drawing too much power, maybe that can happen?

In the same room as the backup diesel generators you'll find toggle switches for all of the systems. Try turning them all off to start, then start the generator while the panel is disabled and see if it catches fire. If not, start enabling systems one at a time. Lights should be fine, but if you start trying to bring up the power on primary and secondary cooling loops, pressurizer, etc all 3 circuits at the same time on the original crappy v1 diesel gen, I suspect you're going to have a bad time. There's a panel in the control room that gives a readout for how much energy each system is drawing at the moment. Don't go over the max your diesel can provide.

I know from experience that if you run all three loops at start up, Its too much power and overloads the gen and catches it on fire. Its happened to me. The best bet is run the first loop to get it stable and powering the plant. Then start the other loops. Make sure you stay under the resister limit.

You are correct, because when I turned everything OFF, I had only 2 loops running. Then I was trying to restart everything with all 3 loops running together. In the end, I sold it, took another loan from the bank and bought the second one, better! haha! :steamhappy:
I'm running 3 loops like a charm now!

No man, I had absolutely everything "off" and was trying to turn everything back on with 3 loops installed, nothing was running. But I figured it out now, thanks.

Yeah I know, I did try that as well, as I said, absolutely everything was off. Downstairs in the control room and those switches in the gen. room as well. But yeah, it can't run 3 loops that's for sure!!! lol

when your shutdown just keep the main coolant running at 25% that's the pumps u see at the core to solve the problem upgrade the gen or order the yellow 1 and install that that will run all the pumps plus the backup pumps dry up if u leave them running when the core is not online
