Campaign grills my GPU ?
i have more than 150 games and never had this before.
I only played 2 minutes of the campaign and my GPU which is a GTX 1080 Phoenix
had 71c with 100% fan speed.

I usually never even hear my fans since they never go higher than 50% and i barely have above 65c in any game.

Now in this game i had 71c on 100% fan speed (GPU automatically adjustes fan speed)
after only 2 minutes ?

I even limited frames to 90 fps
something seems very wrong

Yeha i know 71c itself is not a problem and GPUs can go up to 90c in extreme cases.

But i had 71c on 100% fan speed after only 2 minutes of a campaign were basically nothing happend so far ....
thats not how it is in any other game

Hi Sonnenbank,

We're sorry to hear you're having this issue.

It is quite normal for games to use a lot of your GPU, and the temperature is not an issue, that is quite low.

So that we can better understand the problem and recommend a solution, we would like to request that you please send us your DxDiag information via the steps below:
  1. Hold down the Windows Key and press R
  2. The Run dialog should appear. Type dxdiag in the available text field.
  3. Click OK
  4. Click Save All Information
  5. Set the Save as type to Text File (*.txt)
  6. Save the file DxDiag.txt to your Desktop so it is easy to find.
  7. Open the .txt file, copy all the contents > Paste all the contents to a free text hosting service such as https://justpaste.it/ or http://pastebin.com/
  8. Copy the link to your post and paste in your reply
Once we have this information, we will do our best to further assist you in resolving this matter.

thx for answer i will get to you in a couple hours

I know that 71c is not an issue ... but with fans are running on 100% this is significantly hotter than any other game

Not Elden Ring , not Age of Empires 4 not Path of Exile and not Anthem
In these games i get 63-65c on 50% fan speed.

GPU in Age of Darkness started massivly heating up even in the first cutscene of the first mission.

So i made some more testing.

It simply seems that for some Reason Darkness Final brings more heat to my GPU than any other game i have. Including games like Elden Ring...

I now forced my Fans to stopp at 67% so that they are still kinda silent.
This simply results in my GPU clock frequency going down from 2025mhz to 1860mhz
I can sustain 71/72c this way at 67% fan speed without too much noise.

I have 2 screenshots for you

1.) Here is a Screenshot of my GPU Data with 15 minutes of PoE
https://ibb.co/wJCJByH

2.) here one of 2 Minutes Darkness final stand.
https://ibb.co/v3sm6tq

I also did what you told me with the DxDiag information but tbh i dont think it helps much.
Its just my complete system information and crash reports.

Now i appreciate the effort but here is my reasoning to not send full information.

1.) Its my complete System information (Everything from Computername to games that i played to drivers i have installed etc etc...) and i dont want this to be on the internet tbh
2.) Darkness final stand is not crashing and i have a workaround
3.) no other game shows that behaviour.

So yeha now that i forced fans to 67% max it simply clocks down my GPU which doesnt really matter since its stil fast enough.
For other games it doesnt matter either since no game ever goes close to darkness final stand temperatures and all run stable with 2025mhz

So here are some Information that are not sensitive:

I hope you can optimize GPU issues a bit .

After all its not the end of the world.
But its also true that for me this game produces more heat on my GPU than any other game i have ever played.

EDIT: It also seems i have an extremly overclocked and good version of a GTX 1080
i can hold 2025mhz at around 60-65c with below 60% fan speed on every game except Darknes Final stand.

I looked into 1080 specs and it says clock speed is 1733mhz

So my Gainward Pheonix Golden Sample runs 300mhz faster than default 1080 clock
without me overclocking
didnt know that

Hey Sonnenbank,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We do appreciate you may want to keep some information on your DxDiag private however without the full DxDiag report, we are unable to see some of the information we need to determine what may be causing this problem - if you'd feel more comfortable emailing it to us privately you can do that here[support.team17.com] with a reference to this Steam thread so we can continue troubleshooting in a less public forum :)

Please do let us know what you'd like to do or simply pop us an email with your DxDiag attached and we can investigate further!

Yep, grilling my GPU too.

Usually I turn on vsync and it stops but not in this case.
I've turned everything down and it's still doing it. It seems to happen during the very first cut-scene of the campaign. I will try survival but I am honestly scared to do grill my GPU anymore than it has already been...

Hi Jaunty,

We're sorry to hear you're having this issue.

Can you please use the above steps to share your dxdiag information with us?

Get back to us when you can.

The same problem. In survival mode, everything is fine, and the story mode loads the video card endlessly up and fps is low. (r7 2700x, rtx 2080, 48gb Ram ddr4 3200).
Please inform the developers that the campaign mode is most likely to have a memory leak (video memory).

Good ;)

yeha i was pretty sure from the start that it is not my system but something with teh campaign as i said of all my games the campaign in Age of Darkness: Final Stand was the only one causing the heat
Sonnenbank 6 SEP 2023 a las 12:52 p. m.
I have now changed from 1080 to 2080TI (undervolted 960mv and overclocked 1700mhz) but the problem in the first campaign mission kinda remains

Power Draw meassured with MSI Afterburner

Remnant 2 - 225w
Jagged Alliance 3 - 210w
Elden Ring 98w ---------------------(i assume because of fixed hardcoded fromsoft 60fps)
Path of Exile T16 map clear with screens exploding 177w (90fps cap)

Age of Darkness First campaign/tutorial mission 265w when capped to 90fps

So it is clear that the
very first campaign mission did put my GTX 1080 to constant 100% of its max possible power and it is doing so with my 2080TI , too

no other game does that.
And therefore its no wonder i get much higher temps in this game than in any other game

Just came back to the game today and did a few tests.

When i start a new free game (not campaign)

I draw 190w power and card has 58c on 90fps.

when i play campaign card did go smooth for a variying couple of minutes
200w 61c 90fps in the first mission.
I thought now maybe it is fixed since it previously did draw 265w and got hot

and then mission 2 suddenly it goes 270w and stays at 270w full gas even when i lower fps to 72 or even lower.... and temperatures go up crazy....

well seems i have to skip campaign
