Greetings Fancy,

Sorry to hear that this has happened - would it be possible to see your system information so that we can try to help? To do this:
  1. Hold down the Windows Key and press R, the Run dialogue should appear > Type dxdiag in the available text field > Click OK
  2. Click Save All Information > Save the file DxDiag.txt to your Desktop so it is easy to find
  3. Open the .txt file, copy all the contents > Paste all the contents to a free text hosting service such as http://justpaste.it, http://textuploader.com or http://freetexthost.com
  4. Copy the link to your post

Edit: Verifying Steam game cache a couple times seems to have helped once. Either restarting the computer or reinstalling the game seems to have fixed it permanently (fingers crossed). Have done dozens of runs since without *this* issue.

Believe I'm having the same crash. I just survived the 3rd wave, then saved. When I reload the save file, either my manual save or the autosave, every time it runs fine for about 5 minutes, then crashes with this error.

Error reads as follows:
"Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00000002cc5eaaa8

Update: Still having the issue. Was able to complete that game but have had the same crash block progress on 2 other runs. Verifying cache is not alleviating those either. I'm hard stuck.

Greetings Catbert7,

Sorry to hear that you are having this issue. Unfortunately, this may be due to you still have Windows 7 installed when Age of Darkness asks for at least Windows 8.1. Nvidia does not offer regular updates for Windows 7 either, which will also cause problems.

That said, you are not using their last update, so you can try to install the 473.04 version and retest, but we cannot guarantee that the game will run without any issues.

  1. Go to the official NVidia download centre here[www.nvidia.com]
  2. Using the dropdown menus, fill in your graphics card information and press "Search"
  3. In the new page, click on Download and then Download again
  4. Right-click over the file and select Run as administrator
  5. If you are prompted by Windows User Account Control, click on Yes. The installer will prompt you for an extraction path. Most users should be fine with the default path.
  6. Once the driver install has completed, the extracted files will automatically be removed from your PC. Choose OK.
  7. You will next be prompted to accept the NVIDIA software license agreement. Read the contents and then if you agree, click "AGREE AND CONTINUE" to proceed.
  8. Next, choose Custom (Advanced). Then click NEXT.
  9. Select Perform clean install and then click on NEXT.
  10. Once the installation has finished, reboot your PC one more time to complete the installation.

It does not seem to be an issue with Windows 7, as restarting and reinstalling the game seems to have fixed it (so far). Have you been tracking whether this is a Win7 exclusive issue? Or if any are?

Though I am now having an equally weird problem, where Nightmare mode does not autosave, or does not show me the autosaves, except for every once in a blue moon, when an autosave from a much earlier run will show up, for reasons I cannot explain.

And I just had my units inexplicably stop responding to commands, right at the start of the 2nd wave... for at least half a minute. Not sure how long it would have lasted, since it got them all killed and lost me a run that I cannot recover.

I have updated to Windows 10 and updated my drivers and the bug has actually returned now, though not immediately following those updates. Did quite a few runs afterward without encountering it but got it while loading into a new run.
