Hope this helps give you some clarity!
Thanks. Maybe give the player a server client on steam to be allow to run their own lobby. I own so many games who were using centralized server lobby system and who are now not playable online.
It is really all about an exit strategy for us player.
I would hate to not be able to play the game in the future because the studio closes or whatever reason…
I hear you!! I can confidently say that if in some world Australia drops off the face of the planet, you all would still be able to continue playing AOD multiplayer as we will be utilising peer-to-peer networking and hosting.
Unless you live among us in Australia... then we'll be together playing Multiplayer somewhere else haaha!
Super nice ! Thanks a lot :)
A: this makes modded game hosting easier and better and B: this gives a solid basis for playing mulitplayer independent on servers provided from externals.
Like Northgard which has both, it frequently has its official servers not working well, so we default to P2P, which comes with its own issues but at least allows us to play without any problem related to connectivity.
So P2P seems like a must have.
P2P is basically your failsafe, when official server support ends.
