By mid game cultist are not worth the supply so it is okay if they die while clearing the map.
Pikemen have some late game value as they can attack through 1 tile defences and are much more population efficient.
If you need extra tanking for wave 2,3 or above
Triage center+dark fury+few melee units and the Lady hero.
Hero is almost unkillable in that setup and is the strongest tanker in the whole game.
Make sure hero is using dark fury on CD and regaining dark crystals by using lvl 2 and they are always within the triage's green radius.
If melee unit dies 75% to get ressed in the triage center.
Do not forget this faction gains 50% bonus dmg if horrified with much less other penalties.
Horrified impaler also gains 50% shred to 60.....
Harbinger can be used to horrifiy units on demand and is also kinda good in wave defence if in tower.
Arbalest+harbringer can work too.
But you can do without warlocks if you wish.
Basic wave defence like other factions can work for DN3.
Advanced defence is make sure to have NO flaming towers,sconges healing horrify in your wave defence spot so they stay horrified........(unlike other 2 factions).
Vision is gained by wood tower+archer inside.
Other spots can have the usual light towers to prevent respawns.
Few Harbringers horrifies rookie units for +50% dmg and ranged goes inside tower during the wave timer countdown.
During wave defence emboldened units with+25% dmg clear the map as they are immune to horrifiy.......and deal less dmg.
So this faction has stronger defences then rebbelion and they can have the best single target dmg againts crushers.
As+50% dmg arb is the best.
Mass harbringers with tower perk can also be used in wave defence.
And arbs used for map clearing.
If you play as Auleria her Dark fury more than doubles the dmg of the flamer so they can be used too for wave defence.
But you can use impalers only too.

You can just use 2-3 harbs to buff up 20-30 arbalest during timer so they gain+50% dmg in towers and that is likely enough for anti crusher duty.
Buffing impaler is also nice.
Otherwise you likely need around 40 horrified harbs in tower to defend.
Or just use arbs and harbs togethers.
Arbs shred harbs health dps down.
Harbingers are very bad at map clearing as they have 2 range on foot.
They can still be used on emboldened units only their speed boost buff applies.
So few can be used for speed boost.
They are support units.
And by wave 3 it is unlikely that you can field enough harbs for wave defence.
