commenting here just to give this attention. By the way on widescreen monitors the zoom calculates in relation to horizontal pixels which results in a very zoomed in view all the time. This very much hinders overview and managing cities :(
Anyway, the Suggestions channel in the Discord is the best place to post stuff like this. That's the one the Devs pay the most attention to, and players can vote up the Suggestions they like. This one has been made before, but one more time can't hurt ;p

Other considerations are whether the art looks good when minified, and whether you want to constrain a player to a micro focused view vs confusing them by allowing a macro focused view.
But it's probably a lot to do with FPS issues here. And micro focused gameplay.
We're aiming to have ultra-wide support resolved for our 1.0 launch! We're also currently doing Multiplayer playtesting with our Discord community where those builds have these fixes.
Would love it if you jumped in and tried it out with your ultra-wide setup!!! It requires you to adjust your FOV & Display Settings.
Also, copying/pasting this across our ultra-wide support threads going on across Steam haha.

All I an say is that most RTS games are worse. At least AoD gives you *some* ability to zoom in, and out. I wish it were more too but... have you played a game like CoH lately? RTSs just have this thing where zooming in/out is a no no.
Company heroes is a gold standard of what Zoom limitation should be, great amount of zoom in and zoom out, but yes it does seem to be the norm now limiting zoom level, sad times.
