Stuck on loading screen after Chapter 2

For some reason, right after the May fight with the squirrel in Chapter 2 and the Rose cutscene, there's a critical bug where the game won't go past the next loading screen. The screen goes black and the book keeps rotating forever. Some stuff we've tried:

- using other people's saves,
- load different chapters with other people's saves (it never loads the game if it's past the Chapter 2),
- checking file integrity (didn't find anything wrong),
- reinstalling,
- replaying the plane escape mission all over again to get to the problematic cutscene,
- running the game with high/realtime priority in task manager,
- restarting PC

I'm playing with my brother who lives in another continent, so our ping difference is about ~300ms, although there seemed to be no problem in the previous chapters and lag was barely noticeable. I'm on a desktop, he's on a laptop

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I've tried everything I could find on yt, reddit, EA forums and Steam discussions and hadn't any luck.

If anyone stumbles upon this post: I've solved it by changing the server from Steam to the EA App server.
