Why the Elephant torture?
Just saw a review of that twisted scene. I should've known at blue hair strong women that there was going to be some twisted mental therapy inside it. It ruins whatever was left of the story.

omg, that scene is so slow and brutal. I don't even want to watch it. It's literally amputation. I should've skipped it.

Sigh.

It's meant to show that the husband and wife have not really grown yet. That their selfishness is part of what holds them back. They were willing to harm their daughter emotionally, and even REVELED in it, because they thought it would help them.

It's MEANT to be a brutal scene, and it's supposed to make you uncomfortable while helping you understand some of their flaws.

The fact that you think an uncomfortable scene can ruin a story just because it made you feel bad is kind of silly. It's goal was to make you uncomfortable.
Hell, the story opens with the parents wanting a divorce; a hard subject. And seeing how they only think of how unhappy THEY are, and how they assume divorce is best for THEM instead of what's best for their child.

They'd rather give up because it's easy for them. They'd rather make thier kid sad because they think it benefits THEM.

The scene made you dislike the parents? GOOD! It did it's job; they are supposed to be unlikable for how far they put their needs above their daughter's emotional well-being.
When they realize then can affect the world to make her notice them, they don't think of writing a note, or drawing on paper. No, they decide to break her favorite toy
They, literally, put their wants above their child's emotional health. It's supposed to be uncomfortable and evil

That will make their redemption all the better at the end. (I assume; I have not beaten the game yet).

Not every story is sunshine and lollipops and hugs and kisses. They aren't bad just because you felt uncomfortable.

I am writing to complain in the strongest possible terms regarding the age rating applied to this game. It has been classified as suitable for children of 12, despite the inclusion of a scene where the central characters plan and perpetuate the mutilation and murder of their daughters toy elephant. This is depicted is a very drawn out and inappropriate way, which even as an adult I find deeply disturbing. I would therefore ask you to review the rating here, with a view to increasing it to 16. Or preferably the developers should be encouraged to patch the game and revise the part in question.

This is the sort of game I may have well bought to play with one of my three children. I'm glad I was warned in time to prevent them being exposed.

SPOILER WARNING. Excerpts from the scenes in question below. The many many comments here support my views.

..You do realize a ratings board rates games, not the developers?

The ESRB (Or PEGI over in Europe) reviews a game and decides the age rating to set.
Also; just because you're uncomfortable, or disagree, does not mean the developers should rewrite the game.
Teleport Apr 8, 2021 @ 8:49am
As I mentioned, it's not about whether I'm comfortable experiencing this or not as an adult, but rather should children of 12 (or 10-11 possibly) be exposed to it. The fact that the voice of the elephant also sounds like a child adds to just how wrong and poorly judged this all is.

The developers and publishers should ask themselves if they would want their children (assuming they have) to experience this. There is a (moral) responsibility on them here. The presentation of the game, with its cartooney graphics style, being full of toys and centred around the story of a child (albeit who's family has issues) is a deceptive wrapper for the extremely dark content within.

Again; the developers and/or publishers did not pick the rating.
A board of people not associated with the game in any way decide the rating of the game. So it's not on the developers to change anything.

Well it ruins it because it's bad writing. The whole story makes no sense. Who has a dad that does the garden and a mom that does all the DIY at home. It makes no sense, and this scene is just not needed, who dances in the tears of their kids, I dunno how it ends, but I WANT them to get a divorce, the women is a prick, and the guy is a useless nobody on top of that they're both selfish pricks. I wanted to play this with someone younger but I can't because it contains this scene, horrible.

Ye saw it on WAB as well, that guy saves me so much money it's crazy. Happy to see some people enjoy it, I REALLY do not.

You find it unbelievable that the mom is a tecchie and the dad likes to garden?

Wow, that's a you problem. It's in no way unbelievable unless you're sexist.
And I explained the tears thing, but clearly this game is not for you, if the dad gardening is part of your 'issues' with the game's writing.

Anyways; I'm done here. When your complaint is 'why does the mom know DIY stuff?', you have a problem.

Get outta here. 99% of normal people can't relate, simple as that, I am one of those 99%. It's not that as a complaint, but I do get tired of SJW's on the internet, they have no place here or anywhere besides Twitter and Reddit.

They main complaint is that SJW's cant write stories as seen here. I can tell by the story that the writers have severe mental issues. Parents dancing in a kids tears..... You have to be REALLY special to come up with that.

Eitherway I wrote that to show that the story makes no sense from A to Z.

The mom being a tecchie means SJWs meddled in the game?

Wow, you are stupid. Nothing states women can't be technical.
Tell me; do you get angry when you see women building PCs? Being doctors? Scientists?

Again; that's a YOU problem. Not bad writing or the game's problem. And no, 99% of people won't feel the same as your bigoted viewpoint. Because this is 2021, and women can fix things while men can plant gardens.

Because most people aren't stupid.

Please go back to Reddit or Twitter, don't waste my time. If you're going to twist my words like most crazies than we're done talking. For clarity; YOU are the SJW, not the male or female in the story, though it is extremely unrealistic as we see often in stories written by SJW writers. That don't mean a women can't be a techie, it just so happens that that rarely if ever happens IRL thus can't relate. Now get back to Twitter.

Q:Tell me; do you get angry when you see women building PCs? Being doctors? Scientists?
A: No. Course not. I get angry by American politics and culture.
^No offense, as you're probably, 100%ish American. I have yet to meet someone outside of Murica that starts spewing all the "ists" as soon as their skewed world-view is challenged.

My skewed world view?

Says the dude upset that the mother is a techie.
Just because YOU are uncomfortable does not mean that the rest of the world follows YOUR narrow-minded views.
Nor does it mean games should cater to your views and never write something you don't like.

♥♥♥♥ off, troll.

I never said that, learn to read. Of course you can't, education is such horrible in Murica just like the Healthcare and of course their toxic politics / culture lmao. Stop wasting my time. And yes, most Americans have a skewed world-view.

just saying, it was actually brilliant. Nothing said this game was sunshine and lollipops. I love the dark side of it and it was very well executed (i know what i did there).
