Does friend pass require EA Play?

I'm deciding whether to buy this on Steam or EA Desktop app. The latter is $5 cheaper for me with an ea play membership, but I'm wondering if the Steam version would be easier to invite friends who don't have the EA desktop app.

So my question is, with the steam version, can I setup multiplayer purely through Steam, or do I still need to run the game through the EA desktop app? And does it require the guest to have the EA desktop app? Thanks!

If You have the game from steam ,please start it from stem ,then the EA origin will
Auto download itself ,what you need to do is register the origin and use it to find your friend s name

Hm, do you know if my guest will also need an Origin account to play co-op? If they do, I'll just go with the cheaper EA Desktop version.

Yes they still need an Origin account even they downloaded the game in steam

why the hell is the game available both on EA Desktop and on Origin. This is beyond me. EA Games are supposed to move to their new platform at some point and they seem to maintain both platforms for a very long time.
If you buy on steam you are forced to go through Origin and not EA Desktop.
If you have the Game Pass, all EA games launch on EA Desktop and not on Origin. What a mess. I have to constantly close/open Origin / EA Desktop.

I think the point is why the ♥♥♥♥ is origin a requirement when i bought the game on steam now i have to go and refund the game because i dont want to have to download more crap
