Can't turn in the 'Slay Ellrah' quest

So I killed Ellrah. But there is no dialogue option to tell Gnorell this. I already had joined the Takers some time back somehow before I killed Ellrah. Does doing that out of order break the Slay Ellrah quest? I'd like to clean up my quest log and get whatever experience or reward is offered for doing this quest later, but you can't finish it out of order?
