has anyone figured out what rough crystals are for?

There is a place where they can be worked into items.

There are 3 different machines in the mines where you can turn them into stuff. Nothing essential, but you might as well hold on to them. Rough crystals are also safe in your junk bag - they won't get sold if you sell all junk.
