The "consequences" are mostly in terms of game balance and missing out on the many death related mechanics.
Many.
> Putting dogs in storage "freezes" them indefinitely. Seems like they'll stay there til you bring them back into the world. However, they're just files when not in the world.

Whilst I absolutely get why the idea of a dog dying would be potentially distressing, so too did the developers, and I think they've gone around it in a really neat way. Lifespans are short, dogs are grown in a lab, and they're not *really* dogs since they grow in larval cocoons and hatch from digitally-fertilised eggs.
Trust me, there are WAY worse things that could happen to dogs than letting them perish.
