If one of your team is doing really well and getting kills, they want to fight, and will blame you for not showing up when they go feed whoever kills them. If you do show up, they can't or won't even try to keep you alive because it's not the best use of their resources as you are under-farmed, then blame you for feeding.
If you are doing really well, nothing will persuade your team to play more cautiously, avoid fights and just push/farm/urn until teams are roughly even again. They will not focus objectives or keeping themselves up.
Devs made this worse by trying to make games finish faster by making respawn times harsher, which is top-down modern game designer thinking and has never worked unless the goal was to make something not fun. When you die repeatedly, you don't just play cautiously: you avoid doing anything useful just so you don't have to stare blankly at the screen.
What's bizarre about this is Valve cracked the MOBA formula over a decade ago, then decided it wasn't good enough and added lots of nonsense to DOTA2. I tried coming back to it recently, and it was a horrendous experience. Deadlock seemed like it had potential a few months ago, but it doesn't feel like I'm fighting opponents as much as I'm fighting the game itself to do anything.
Ignore your team. I mean it; even mute the mics right at the start because they're not always the smart players and will outright BS about things they haven't seen('they pooshing greeeeeen!' says the thick accent, while I'm ambushed by four at purple walker).
They are fairly beginner friendly and fairly decent.
But an important thing you should do is read through the items, familiarize yourself with what they do and how to best utilize them.
One of the youtubers/Streamers I can recommend watching is Deathy.
Keep in mind getting kills is not the be all end all of a match, it heavily depends on who you play. someone like Viscious for example will usually end up with more assists.
If you do play a kill centric hero and struggle to get kills, that is a bit of a more volatile topic that I can't cover in the span of a forum post, but in general ask yourself the following questions when you didn't get a kill you thought you had.
Did I hit my shots? Did I get outmaneuvered? Was there a teammate that helped them fend me off? Did I make use of my abilities? Did I engage with a disadvantage, like soul deficit or life deficit? Did the enemy buy items specifically to counter me? Could I have asked a teammate for help?
Over time you will learn to better assess situations but for now try to determine answers to those questions whenever you didn't get a kill.
Try watching some of your own replays, sometimes you may notice mistakes you made afterwards and can improve on them later on.
If you are struggling with aim, there is stuff like Aimlabs than can help you there
Hope this helps somewhat
Common mistakes I see are players grouping up on lanes far too early and too frequently, limiting their souls gain (soul income is split between players on a lane after 8(?) minutes), and rushing expensive endgame items before they've filled out their build with early and mid-game items. With that in mind:
- Pick a popular build for the hero you are playing (the Linepro suggestion was a good one).
- Focus on staying in your lane and securing souls from the creeps while the Guardians are up.
- Try to go for denies on enemy soul orbs, especially after 8(?) minutes when the full worth of the soul is stored in the orb (you get nothing for killing the creep).
- You can farm the nearby jungle camps between creep waves, but don't prioritise them over the creeps.
- If you lose your Guardian early, fall back to your Walker and make use of the secret shop on your side of the map. This will save you from retreating to base on the zipline and allow you to use your time more efficiently (time = money in this game).
When your team is grouping up for a fight, ask yourself what they are fighting over and whether it is worth wasting time (and therefore money) to join them. If the fight is over an important objective like a Walker, the Urn, or mid-boss, sometimes it can be worth joining to ensure your team has the best possible chance of winning the fight. But at lower skill levels players will frequently group up and fight over nothing of importance, so don't blindly join in without first considering why you should be fighting.
Shorter version of my post. I approve.
First: this is a pre-released game and not a lot of people know how to play the game yet (even at a professional level) It's going to grow and evolve a lot before release. This was highlighted in the 10k tournament where michaelS literally had no competition.
second: kills are the last thing you need to worry about. I say this because you are rewarded the least for killing someone in the game (until later when the respawn timer increases.) If you kill someone in the first minute of the game you don't get many souls for it and they will be back in lane 10 seconds later.
third: most matches are lost because people give the other team free points. Sometimes teams get together for team fights and just let minions push their guardians/walkers down. It is way more important to protect the objective than it is to protect your teammates.
Fourth: I don't know what your skill level is. Make sure you have the basics downs. Last hitting minions. Don't let the enemy team deny your farm. If it isn't apparent where you are needed, hit the mob camps and get some money. If you are low on souls compared to the enemy team, you're not going to be helpful in a team fight anyway.
Good luck friend!
