Deadlock
A thought from a very new player
I already know im going to get hate for this

The movement skill floor is way too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ low. The design of the movement system is amazing and there is so much awesome stuff you can do with it, but the literal moment you misstime a single button, momentarily tap a directional key you didnt mean to in the air or make any mistake all of your momentum is gone and you're stuck with bricks in your shoes waiting to get run over. Skill expression is incredibly important but upon full release I could see this game alienating a ton of people because they see the absurd roll-dash into air dash into wall jump into whatever the hell and they fumble the controls get frustrated, refuse to watch a bunch of guides or spend days in the practice lobby and quit.

I think the current way that the movement system functions looks amazing and feels amazing when it works. I'm the kind of person who will join a practice lobby and ♥♥♥♥ around with movement combos until i feel comfortable with it, but most players wont and I think its really going to drive away massive chunks of the potential fanbase and thus drive down the support valve gives to the game.

That being said its possible that this is a game that is reserved for people who really want to master it but I see valve as the kind of company that will give it the axe because its not as commercially viable.

Skill expression needs to be maintained and players who master the movement system need to feel rewarded and like they show off and have a meaningful edge over others but I think that something needs to be looked at about the barrier to entry for learning movement techs. Some ideas (again from someone with very little experience in the system) is that the roll-jump window needs to be increased, for instance, movement needs to be taught in in-game tutorials with minigames, the way momentum is handled should be more fluid even when you air jump when you mean to air dash and other systems. Right now it feels punishing to not be perfect at moving, whereas it movement should always feel good, but perfect mechanics and deep knowledge should make it feel even better.
