"Ok go watch gameplay and a few tutorials so you know what to do and what to improve."

mhm yeah watch like 10 hours of deadlock before getting into it sounds like fun waht a retarded advice
Go do your homework, Timmy.

Anyway. I had the advantage of playing lots of shooters and mobas before I got into Deadlock. The main thing I learned about winning games when you have trouble contributing through direct kills is to build things that counter whoever is snowballing out of control on the enemy team.
  • If they have a gun build Grey Talon or Vindicta, you get knockdown.
  • If they have a fed Haze, build Metal Skin and Return Fire.
  • If they have a Warden who's causing lots of trouble, get Decay and Healbane, and so on and so forth.

There is very little potential to get extremely far ahead in early game, so focus on farming and surviving if you're bad at trading and learn to use cover.
  • They have a Geist or someone with a bomb? Learn the sound cue (or the cooldown timer, most use it whenever it's up) and dodge them.
  • Are you in a busted solo lane against someone like Mirage or Yamato? Rush regen items like Resto Shot, Extra Regen and Healing Right. If you build regen and they build damage, you can get out traded and still stay up in health so you can be more secure in farming.
  • Lash coming in and destroying you? Silence Glyph him when he rushes in.
  • Bebop Echo Shard double bomb? Ethereal Shift or Debuff Remover.
  • Nothing else working to keep you alive? Warp Stone and learn where you can double jump tele to a rooftop where they can't get to you easily, then go right back to farming.
Do anything you can to stay alive and farm putting kills second until you're confident you can trade and it be worth it.

Finally, know how to play your character optimally. The best way to do this is to look up current builds and learn why they're good. Another thing you can watch are matches on the first page of games under 'Watch' in the main menu, as these are always very high MMR games. Tons of tournaments have already been done, and as long as they're not in older builds you can learn a LOT about farming optimally and playing well.

Look, toxicity isn't a bad thing to an extent, the whole point of a ranked system is to have a mode where people can be ultra competitive. People don't play ranked to just chill and have a good time, play normal que if that's what you want, people play ranked because they want to be the best and COMPETE better than everyone else. If you choose to play the competitive mode in a competitive game, you should be prepared to play against people who are trying to dominate you, it's the whole point of a ranked system. And on top of that, this game wasn't made to be chill and fun, it was made for competition and to find out who's the best and who isn't, so if you don't like that, then sorry, this probably isn't the game for you.
P.S. I wouldn't say I'm terrible at the game, but I also wouldn't say I'm a top ranked player, so this is coming from and average player, not a top tier sweat.
problem is theres sweatlords even on unranked play, its just not fun anymore, 2 weeks ago it was in perfect spot for me, this patch just killed something that made it fun, i dunno
sounds like a abrams player

yea go play this broken piece of ♥♥♥♥ unbalanced game and be a valve hamster

The game sure has gotten more competitive and more insults are thrown around. Gladly at least for me, I've seen less cyrillic names lately so perhaps they are in their own playground more now.

But yeah, being a valve game and itemization seems pretty dota-like I'm sure this will become the worst sweatfest in a hurry. Not looking forward to it, but I'll try to enjoy the game until that.

I don’t mind going up against better players—usually, that’s how you learn—but it’s a different story when I have 5 hours in the game and I’m getting matched with people who already have 300+ hours. It just doesn’t make sense.
If you only have 5 hours then you likely don't understand the game at all and are just throwing yourself into a brick wall by queuing into normal games and hoping the matchmaking saves you. Watch as many tutorial videos as you can, watch high level players who main your hero, etc. You can try playing bot matches to practice the basics of laning and learning where things are on the map. Once you've built up a base of knowledge those early defeats won't feel so bad because you'll actually understand why you're getting ♥♥♥♥ on, which also means you'll have agency to change that.

I do think the matchmaking needs work because I still get absolutely clueless, useless players like yourself ruining my matches. It's not fun for either of us and I was in your position myself when I started. But the only reliable way to change things at the moment is to actually focus on learning and improving. Matchmaking won't save you from bad games. I know casual gamers like yourself really struggle with this idea that you might actually have to put some effort into your hobby, but this is just the reality of any remotely competitive activity. Play literally any team sport and you will encounter the same problem - gaming is the only sphere where bad players expect to be coddled and never be challenged.

This is absolutely hilarious. Think about how braindead this is....The quoted response above was to someone that only has 5 hours in this game. "Instead of playing the game to learn the basics, go watch 5-10 hours of video on the game, heroes, mechanics, meta strats, and study how to play the game at a basic level BEFORE you queue into matchmaking." Haha if this is your idea of how people need to get into the game at a very basic level youre going to be very dissappointed when it doesnt work and this game dies before it can get healthy levels of a fanbase.
They need to have new players queues even in a beta or new players will stop before they have any understanding of if the game is fun for them. Suggesting that just to even try to the game out you need to use third parties sites to research the game is absurd even in 2024
I think the playerbase is struggling to adapt to the differences between this game and its genre. There's a conventional expectation for how the game will go and what is and is not acceptable and in average games it's no fun because of the part where this game is a shooter.

Lots of teams that have the game under their thumb, 30-40k lead, yet REFUSE to teamfight at the enemy base, even when half the other team is already dead, everyone present, and outnumbered because they "dont have enough damage to win" despite it being 45:00 in and our team winning every conflict for the last 20 minutes.

I think something needs to be changed to where once a team has been pushed all the way into the box that's going to cause some patron progress- so probably the creeps. IDK if there's a mechanic but conspicuously absent are the trebuchet guys you get in similar games for having totally destroyed the other team's towers.

I never said you need to watch 10 hours of YouTube to play the game. That is complete fiction. I said "watch as many tutorial videos as you can, watch high level players who main your hero, etc". It's up to you how much time you spend doing those things. If you don't have time to do any of that or you're too lazy, that's fine. Just don't be surprised when you get ♥♥♥♥ on by players who have actually put some level of effort into learning the game. It's hilarious watching entire teams of braindead players like yourself repeatedly wipe to a single Haze pressing their 4 key or a Bebop spamming bombs and whining that there's nothing you can do about it.

And no, there is nothing absurd about needing to rely on third parties to educate you on a competitive game that is in alpha development. Maybe one day this game will have more features to help new players, but for now you need to be proactive and take responsibility for your own learning and self-improvement. You toxic casuals act like the rest of us are just magically better than you by default - the reality is that everyone else just took the time to learn how to play the game. You didn't, therefore you are terrible at it. That's how life works.

that guy is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, lol go watch 10 hours of random youtubers who you dont even know if they are good and have like 3k subscribers, potentially wasting your time on ♥♥♥♥ advice and outdated content to ''git gud'' ... smh i hate moba players with a passion
Okay, so this game is doomed because people are having fun getting better at it and this is bad for new players: sure, I can see that being a problem. Is there an example of a competitive multiplayer game which does things correctly which could then be applied to this game?
I notice whoever is playing Haze or Seven is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and starts placing blame but not helping their team. I frequently end with 2 or 3x anyone else's assists when we win because few players will to either sacrifice a tower or just farm less to move around the map and support the struggling lanes or help get those finishing blows.

I think the urn needs to be a lot less frequent, maybe even less and less frequent toward the endgame because I'm noticing the players who always pick the most meta character will never. let. that. ♥♥♥♥. go, even when we could just win the game 45+ minutes in, even when they have 50+k souls and the enemy hasnt left their base without getting creamed in 15 minutes, even when they have a 10k+ soul lead.

I play Seven main but don't take offense, I get it. I think people forget how good his mobility is and how much of an asset he can be as support. Health Nova to save team mates, Return Fire, Curse, Slowing Hex + Ult can stop an entire team's push and that's how I play him.

In my day you couldn't blame the game (or rank system) without 100 people hitting you with "dunning kruger effect"

I haven't seen it mentioned by anybody but myself. I see people deranking losing their minds; they never learned to actually play the game, they were just copying a build. There's a dude in the other thread saying yeah I wanna get better but okay I'm not going to read the items.

Well, what do you expect? Other players do.
