Whoever stacked the right formula of gear and enough of it on the most broken character wins 95% of the time.
That also brings me to another thing I really dislike about this game or really any game of the "dota" genre. There are 100's of items to add on in match, but that vast majority of the playerbase just uses some copy paste formula someone else made. It could be removed and for the majority of the playerbase that result would be a better game.
Sure, but that section of the playerbase is so small as to be largely irrelevant, they exist in the margin of error of the total player base.
The 'heroes' look entirely uninspired. They're all bland and washed out.
This is generally due to them all being roughly the same character when you take away their 1-4 buttons.
Even the sniper classes have damage falloff and automatic weapons.
Really Valve? Snipers that can't snipe without using cooldowns?
This "margin of error" group you talk about is more like a sizable minority of at least 20%. People who love the game will play bot matches all day long just because they like the gameplay and the number of streamers playing right now shows that there's even more people who aren't streaming playing the game
Read rest of thread as to why that's irrelevant for the most part.
If it's TLDR: Those players account for such a small portion they don't matter.
118k and your example is 9/10ths of 300 people?
That's 0.228%.
Then you have typical MOBA problems: feeder goes into play dies 3 times in 3 minutes and rage quits, you are left with lost game and have to restart wasting time and effort.
You want to check weaker champ? good luck being against tryhards while you have a feeder in your team.
You do good and win your lane? Too bad your other lanes suck.
ELO hell is real in every single MOBA and this will not be different.
When it releases it will also be full of smurf accounts.
but you will keep playing because these games have typical gamble addiction going on. You won your lane, you know you are good, but your teammates are bad. And you try again because you will get better teammates, right? Or you will carry. And you play and play and cannot see that it is completely not fun, you lose and lose time and time again, you start to play crap eventually waiting for someone else to carry you, but you still are given this dopamine hit that you did good in some aspects. Like a gambler who almost won, but is a loser in overall picture.
I would be wholly willing to bet that is intentional in order to keep players trickling in the future, as is the reason why the game does not display a review score which I would bet in it's current form would not be flattering and would likely ruin the hype.
Let's hope Valve doesn't listen to this guy at all. Valve - Please keep your design principles and stay away from backseat developers. If people want to play support, there -are- support builds and viable support items through actives. Just because everyone doesn't build support, doesn't mean it's not there. Can it be encouraged more? sure, but I dont need a character like Soraka or Sona, the design is different because of Stamina.
People need to understand that this Moba has different layers of design than other Mobas. Let the game beta, let them feel out their design philosophies. They will get there. The game is great so far.
"You can kind of fake it by purchasing very specific upgrades for only a couple classes and it could sort-of-kinda be close!"
That's what your basically saying, but your totally disregarding that if you do that, you'll be deleted by your average DPS build almost instantly so the build is near worthless.
Fanboi less.
This game suffers from some pretty extreme pigeonhole design. All characters are DPS hybrids with some one-trick pony stuff.
