Is the hype simply based on the fact its a new valve game? I dont get it. Its repetitive beyond belief and nothing in the gameplay loop feels rewardingf - who is this for?

I feel like that's more due to an issue of early development. Once core gameplay and mechanics are ironed out, they will be instituting skins/hats and all the fun stuff Valve games offer.

It's not even publicaly available yet technically, there is a lot they can add on top. Usually such playtests are there to test out the overall foundation - Gunplay, basic functions etc.
I'd expect we see more maps, different objectives maybe, different modes eventually if it gets fleshed out more
