Afaik the big hurdle here is apple's terrible vulkan support, no? Not dissing you for using it, just dissing apple as a company. It looks like it'd be a lot of extra work the way apple's currently doing things.

I'm on Linux and it runs fine on proton. idk. exactly what happened with proton on mac, but what i gathered was that apple having awful vulkan support made it too much work to deal with and they dropped it.

The cheapest way for Valve to enable MacOS support is to extend Proton support for Mac users. Which is a lot to ask for but would make life of mac users so much simpler. Since the game already is playable more or less with Whisky (and probably same with Crossover) which uses same translation layer as Proton called Wine, and some tricks for Steam Deck are already work for Whisky as well.

But maybe I'm terrible wrong. But If I needed to pay for official Steam Proton support for MacOS once I would do that happily.
