while the hero diversity feels forced if you catch my drift(i like my classic stereotypes more then the "modern" ones), it played well before they updated it a couple of times.
TF2 players and DotA2 players are the most likely to get one. Inviting your friends doesn't always give them the invite if they've not played games like TF2 or DotA2 before.
TF2 players despise the MOBA aspect, and feel as though Deadlock is just another article of proof that TF2 has been abandoned. DotA2 players don't like the shooting part as much, but they're more likely to understand what mindset is required to play the game.
League of Legends players seem to like it a lot, because it's not as dense or as impenetrable as DotA2 is, but is already a more competently designed game than LoL is, LOL!
Most of the people invited to play Deadlock despise MOBAs, and despise Hero Shooters in general as well, because team play is demanded, rather than a suggestion like it is with Counter Strike or TF2. I think the audience pick with the invites just got the wrong people.
I also think that the comparisons to Artefact don't even know why Artefact failed. They see what TF2 players see when they glance at Deadlock. Artefact was supposed to be the HL3 reveal, it got a mass booing LIVE. As a game, it was not a bad one. The problem was the buy in.
CCGs have a totally different audience, one not just willing, but desperate to spend money on the next box drop of power cards so that they can stay ahead of the game. Being balanced isn't as important as being dominant in this scene, because it can always be banned, or reprinted, or replaced by another card just like it but slightly more suitable for balanced play.
DotA2 pulled me in because I didn't have to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ purchase LoL champs with real money to stay ahead of the game. DotA2 is fair, everyone gets the same stuff they need to get good, you aren't lumped with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ starter pack until you splash the cash like in LoL... Or in CCGs.
Not only did Artefact have a price tag just to buy the damn thing, it also came with the buy a card ♥♥♥♥ that is the blood of CCGs. It was insultingly ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Underlords? I don't even know why that existed, it started life as a fun little free game, it's just weird Valve tried to make it a bigger thing.
Deadlock has more meat to it than Underlords. And, as long as Valve don't lose their damn minds, it's not going to be P2W like Atrefact and CCGs like it. It has neither of the problems of the other Vavle flops.
The player count drop could be entirely because the ones invited to play it weren't going to like it anyway. It could also be that it's just too hard, and it's hard for sure.
That said, I think this is probably for the better right now. It needs to find it's audience, because it's not with the TF2 crowd, but at the same time It shouldn't even have an audience yet. When it releases properly, maybe it will.
Honestly, I think the leak really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ everything up. I worry about the pace the Devs are now put through to get the game updated to a finished state AND live serve a player base at the same time.
My estimate for a nice player count is whatever DotA2 sits at these days. It doesn't need 100k players, even 10k is good enough.
And God I need to condense my responses.
Valve are not going to have their industry leading employees stay invested in a game with 5k concurrent. They're paying Icefrog for 6 years now to produce this game. They will cut their losses if things don't turn around and things are not going to turn around because the core game idea was flawed before they spent the first day of development.
You want people to like this trash heap of a game? Revert multiplayer to casual and comp. None of this forced E-Sport nonsense. Every game is already at minimum like 30mins. Going up/down a rank doesn't matter so much as going down will permanently dissuade you from playing AGAIN ALL-TOGETHER. There are no prizes to win, no customization, so rank is pointless anyways!! Your just clumping decent players with the WORST players ever. And that makes the day long ban worth it to be honest.
because admittedly what is there really to come back to, they haven't released new characters, the game hasn't changed substantially, and ive already got alot of hours so
I tried marvel rival, and I had a blast even if I lost the match. While in deadlock, it feels like a chore and getting stomped for 45 mins straight is not fun.
The game rewards the most brain dead bullet and burst builds that just fight and push lanes so blaming the sweats doesn't add up.
+ Removing ranked?
+ Adding "soft ranked"
+ Not having a pick and ban phase
Anyone who is saying "it's only a test phase" - these guys are not very bright or very young.
This test phase is open to everyone. League of Legends had more players in >>closed beta<<. RANDOM INVITE ONLY. 10 years ago..
No one knew "Riot Games". This game is by Valve.
Character design needs to change and they have to announce what MTX will be.
This game tries to pretend to be beginner friendly but in reality it will never be
