You're not getting any credit for the white-list, that just means you are okay to play them. You need to make them yellow, keep Haze purple, then add at least one white to increase the number of lobbies you can be matched with.
What happens then is if you don't get purple for a number of matches(because others made Haze top priority and won the dice roll), it starts loading the assignment in your favour, with purple getting the most of it. By having purple, yellow and white you match more lobbies, which varies the choices that other players have made, including more where no else one has top priority for Haze.
well stop choosing the three noob heroes youtubers are repping to get nerfed this week homie
Also important to remember the other part of the matchmaking, which is ELO. The higher rank you are, the more likely people are going to select meta heroes in their roster
Yesterday I've played about 12 matches (yes I know, day off) with Haze in purple, lash vindicta warden pocket in yellow, and everyone else in grey (yes everyone).
I got Haze 8 times and Lash 4 times.
