- Find the proper build for your character. Search for "RAW DAMAGE Yamato" build or just check out the most popular builds and try them. IMO, the number one damage dealer will be your Slash (1 ability), the second (for me) Torment Pulse (item from the shop), the rest can differ from game to game.

IMO the core of a good DMG dealer Spirit Yamato build is, Torment Pulse, Decay + Escalating Exposure, Mystic Reverb, puttting Superior Cooldown on ult.

Vitality items just as important. I usually build Spirit and bullet armor, debuff reducer.
In the late game Leech or Soul Rebirth are also a good option and upgrade the armors to Improved Bullet/Spirit Armor obviously.
Early game, Healing Rite is my first item to buy, so I can stay in lane longer.

For the bullet items, I usually buy Monster Rounds, Soul Shredder Bullets (must have), Kinetic Dash, then either Fleetfoot or in late game Spiritual Overflow

Ability point distribution over time looks like:
-First of all, max out 1 (Power Slash)
-Then, 2 level (or 3 ability points) to Grapple. So you can catch enemies from 20+ meter.
-Then max out your ult (4)
-Then max out 3
-Then finish with maxing out 2

Playstyle:
-Early game you want to push the wave under the enemies Guardian and poke the enemy as many times as you can with your Power Slash (1)
Note: Power Slash deals significantly more damage if you let it build it up and don't cast it right away.

-If you are losing the lane, it gets much harder to farm and not to die. Stay behind the turret and last hit minions, secure the souls as well and try to poke the enemy whenever you can. Yamato struggles when losing the lane, so you gotta be extra careful. Optional to ask for a gang, so you can get back to the game.

-If you are winning the lane, I usually focus on destroying the enemy tower as fast as possible. Once that is done, you can go and gank other lanes, help the teammates to destroy more enemy Guardians, optionally do some urn runs. Stealing enemy jungle and securing your own jungle is also crucial.

Note: On dual lanes (green, blue) Yamato struggles a bit. Stick to farming and poking the enemy. If you can push the lane to the tower, annoy the enemy with more pokes.
If you are losing the dual lane, the game becomes a nightmare. Farm as much as possible and try not to fight the enemy until you catch up.

Early kills/deaths doesn't matter that much if the game goes into late game. So don't feel too bad for going 1-5 in 8 minutes. It's not fun, but you have the tools to catch up and close the gap.

If you suck at farming, no matter what hero you use, you will always lose.

Yamato is the hardest one I've tried, her or Paradox. You can charge your slash while doing a ground slide, but its hard to execute and land a hit.

I started doing better when I prioritized all the T1 items providing HP and Spirit Shield, replacing Healing Rite with something else later. Since she basically only has the ability to dive like an insane person and then turn invincible before escaping, you'll need the heal, and probably some extra spawn trips.

If you can get them with both mystic and bullet slow I think those stack and could help get the combo off. Anything that actually immobilizes them, such as knockdown could be good; you can always just choose to vulture a player you know stuns enemies often like Bebop. 1 doesn't need very much extra to set off improved burst so I think that one's probably always good on her. Finally if you can get to refresher that's a LOT of skill resets.

But she still just feels like a squishy gimp whom I mostly disregard while playing op characters that spam similar damage from 100+m away in a 20m AOE every 3 (okay, 6 lol) seconds anyway; if I hear her ult I just immediately kinetic dash in a random direction and come back in 5 seconds when its over lmao. She wants to escape, fine she can grats I'm here to do ~2mags to your (objective escalating to your patron) and leave anyway, and if we're fighting in the pit god help her to hit anyone twice in a row. As soon as she drops 1 oh yeah sure bullet resist like crazy, too bad at that point everyone's teleporting around like pinballs spamming spirit aoe's to kill each other.

Yes "all of them can be good" but lets not pretend some are not blatantly easier to do well with than others.

I havent played Yamato in a while, but im generaly good at breaking down what works for a character and what does not. So i might be able to give some tips.

Yamato's main weapon does a lot of damage quickly, and also has a secondary fire mode as opposed to a zoom. This secondary fire does AoE damage, and can be used to hit targets behind cover. Aside from that, your main weapon has a relatively slow Velocity.
For the main weapon there are a few things to keep in mind. In the early game you will quickly run out of ammo because of the firerate and limited ammo, especialy when securing souls and poking at enemies, make sure if you get firerate that you First get some ammo items.
The secondary attack allows you to use burst damage builds like with Mystic Shot (item), since it will trigger on the AoE damage (on one target) even if you splash them.

Getting an item that helps with the velocity of your knifes/bombs from your main attack is also going to help hitting targets further away and consistently hitting headshots where posible.
For Starting items make sure you get High-Velocity Mag so its easier to hit targets, this also builds into Pristine Emblem that perfectly synergizes with the character. Get Basic Magazine for sustain, so you dont run out of ammo non stop, your main attack is very important to deal sustained damage and killing enemies. Lastly get Quicksilver Reload and put the reload trigger on Crimson Slash, this lets you reload whenever you need as Crimson slash has a low enough cooldown to trigger when you need it. And you will always use it when in a teamfight anyways. (dont use it on powerslash, since it has a delayed animation).

Ive seen a lot of players make the mistake of using Power Slash a lot for poking enemy players, this is not the way to play since good players will punish you for it. Power slash has a delay before it triggers, and in this animation you are standing still prone to headshots from the enemy. Use it against enemies that are not going to shoot back at you, and for clearing minions and monsters. Its a great ability with great damage, use it to hit targets in cover (it has AoE), targets that run away from you, and at the start of a fight when you push/graple someone.

Crimson Slash heals you, Healing Booster item modifies that healing. The damage/healing also scales from Spirit Power. Make sure you build a good amount of spirit power and get Healing booster as item, this is your heal ability.
You can also heal after using your Ult Shadown Transformation, make sure to heal before the ability runs out (4 sec at base).

Thats all i can think of right now, i hope it helps.

the very next game I went out there and very nearly 1 tapped bebop, seven, and haze during their ultimate with the charged attack easily killing each at a disadvantage, so ymmv. went with torment pulse + mystic vuln.

but you gotta time it! and they all stood still...
