In the game's current state, there are definitely a number of characters that stand out as being the best of the best, those being McGinnis and Haze. Infernus is also high up there. These beginner friendly characters are there to teach the very basics of the game, and using Valve's suggested guide can make them powerful, but if you REALLY learn the items, they become straight up BROKEN.
Meanwhile, characters like Abrams and Kelvin seem rather underwhelming. Abrams has a revolver, but he's firing snakeshot out of the damn thing; his bullet damage is extremely low, so unless you get LH and secure your souls, you're going to get shredded in early game. Kelvin, on the flip side, has a fairly decent early game weapon and his ice beam/grenades are good to disable enemy heroes. However, as soon as you get to late game, you're essentially nothing more than a glorified support, as your damage falls off greatly.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no expert on the game by any means, these are just my experiences. The game is definitely going to have a rough break-in period while Valve is in active development. The art is gonna look all sorts of wack, and there's going to be minimal lore.
As the game progresses though, we're going to see its popularity rise up, and may see it become less of a MOBA, and more of a Hero Shooter with MOBA aspects. However, we need to see more active discussion about the game... and not SPAM THE FORUMS WITH DEADLOCK INVITES.
Also, Jacob Lash is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Gameplay feels weak, map is bland and samey looking. Not sold on the rails.
Gunplay is very flaccid and weak feeling. Guns lack oomph and feel unsatisfying to use, time to kill being very high contributes to this. The core loop of CSing also feels unsatisfying and I don't like the orb and deny mechanic.
I don't know that MOBAs and shooters mix well. At least not like this.
