Deadlock

Deadlock

not able to launch using Linux
Has anyone had any luck playing on linux? I've tried several different compatibility modes and it jus tnever launches. it eaither pegs my CPU at 100% to process vulkan shaders for 40 minutes to make 8% progress, or it just launches and immediately does nothing.

i've made it to 89% in my 40 minutes, it's taking forever to launch, hoping it will actually run when the time comes :|

NAME="Nobara Linux"
VERSION="40 (KDE Plasma)"
model name : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core Processor
Model: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FTW
RAM: 32GB

i launched with these flags: `mangohud gamemoderun %command%`

i accidentally clicked the Steam window in the background and cancelled the processing at 40% on the first attempt

It launched! seems to run smoothly too once it's up, at least for the tutorials.

Good news is that once that initial processing is finished it doesn't need to happen every launch like Phasmophobia! It loaded right away on subsequent launches.

The tutorials seemed to perform fine, but I made it past the second stage of the tutorial and I don't think this game is for me :/ Live experience might perform better or worse.

Worth waiting for the shaders to compile IMO :)

Same issue.

Linux Mint 21.3
5800X
4090

Shaders take a while to process and the game instantly closes when trying to enter the tutorial map.

I'm on Fedora 40. The Vulkan Shaders are pretty slow to process, but the game runs great for me once it finishes.

How much disk space does the game take up?

Around 20Gb.
I am on ubuntu 23.10, did not have to do anything beyond wait a few hours for the shaders to compile.

Had the same issue and followed this suggestion and it worked for me: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/08/deadlock-from-valve-may-need-this-quick-fix-on-linux/

i only use GNU/Linux and Deadlock has native support even though it only shows the windows logo. You don't need to toggle on 'Enable Steam Play for all other titles'. i use vulkan instead of directx (directx is a microsoft thing and vulkan is the successor to it, so you want to be using that) i am running my own vanilla arch linux. i play this on a laptop with a RTX 4050 - intel i7 12th gen CPU. i do not use any external commands or launch options. i do have 'Allow background processing of Vulkan shaders' enabled.

oh ye i should mention i launch steam as Steam Native, not Steam Runtime. if you search for it in your menu and let me know if that helps.

i can't edit my posts for some reason, my apologies. i also am using the nvidia-open-dkms drivers. NVIDIA says to use those instead of their proprietary drivers. you also need linux-headers installed. this laptop is an optimus (in BIOS you can switch which card you want to use) so i can run everything on the graphics card. the RTX features don't show up otherwise in most games not running on dedicated GPU, even though you can use prime-run - you may not get the performance you want until you're on that dedicated gpu in the BIOS.

I'm running Ubuntu 22.04. I had an issue where the game would just display the Valve logo and crash. I found that the game was able to work when I set vm.max_map_count to 1048576 where before it was at the default value of 65530.
$ sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=1048576 $ sudo sysctl -p

I've been waiting for several hours and I really don't think it'll ever finish, this isn't normal
