Did we not find Kate already interresting enough as it was? Is it a crime to love and continue with what we already had?
No matter if you are gay, bi or straight, or identify yourself as a lizard or a dog, whatever : We loved her!
Kate was great as she was. Not the typical stereo type person, caring about fashion, make up, being mouthy, she was her own strong woman. oozing adventureseeker and kindness -not sex appeal, being gentle, non-violent and feminine person, having to use brain instead of weapons and battles.
Now she has become this masculine looking, fashion driven, make up, younger and uninterresting mainstream typical millenial.
Just another Dontnod game isnt it?
So dissapointed.. I only wanted and wished to continue what once was :(
If she had been "this and that" from START, then I wouldn't mind playing this new person. but holy smoke, 20 years have passed. Why ruin that?
I might come out strong saying all this, but its because I CARE and I loved the old classic and its magical and dreamy world. It was like a sacret place to escape reality.
What a loss.
Syberia 1 and 2 has been my favourite game of ALL TIME. and I have played games since the early 80's!
I care.
I have given my feedback, I have given my views.. it ain't going to change a thing. All I can say is "Have fun kids, enjoy". And now its mature content too. You get the violence. Woohoo!
Thank you Benoit Sokal for what you did create earlier. You are still my hero for the beautiful art you do. Noone can make nicer journal books with cute and warm humorous drawings like you do. The stories and magic I felt, was wonderful.
Whiskey voice, ugly hair and wrong style... She has been working in the salt mines as a prisoner.
It's not hard to imagine her growing close to the only person she has been able to connect with, so her getting attached to a woman makes sense in context.
And Snowflake applies less to Kate and more to the people getting upset over who she falls in love with.
Only problem I had with the game were the loading times.
Yeah, working in a mine being shaved is different. You don't get a styled haircut if so.You would get a cancer patient cut. This is a zero grade cut without clipper guard in the neck, long on top. If she had been shaved (cheaply) it would not grow only on top and nothing in the neck. Therefore this is styled. I know styled hair, thank you, And the colour black/blue is also not a logical economic thing to do in a prison.
We are talking about a prison that won't even give them unlimited access to water..
Secondly this is not her clothing and no prisoners are given outfits like that. You would get baggy clothes to "fit all". Again-Economic reasons.
Thirdly, You don't get a clinical/surgical facial make-over in prisons, and no make up either for that sake. You don't get a different eye colour, unless you are Vin Diesel in Pitch black, and even he didnt' get it in prison, cause he lied.
Growing close to a friend is OK, but changing mentality and preferances like that, is very unlikely for someone who wasn't in the beginning. 20 years ago, but rather a developer's idea, for the sake of gender trends. 2020.
So yeah there you go. again, this is not Kate Walker. and the only reason I would buy this game is if she turns back to her good old self as soon as she gets out of the mine. Back to her cool clothing style, back to the feminine sweet Kate with the natural looks she once had and back to the voice we know. For that of course I would have to get spoilers ahead before buying.
Technical issues however doesn't bother me one bit, never has, because I know they will be fixed.
The hair styling is probably down to it being a video game and not a completely accurate depiction of how their hair should look. Their clothing is mostly likely either whatever they wore in or whatever they could scavenge off dead prisoners, since it is an illegal gulag where they barely get enough water I doubt they would provide clothing.
I don't remember her sexual preferences ever actually being stated, let me know if i'm forgetting something. The relationship makes a lot of sense in context... If she had suddenly started calling herself a man then you might have a point about gender trends, but she didn't and you don't.
I would expect that if she escapes and makes it back to civilization you would see a return to form, at least in clothing and hair. Her sexual preferences would still remain irrelevant to the game.
Im sorry. Illogical.
They wouldn't give you dentist help or rush you in to a hospital if you were sick. A russian gulag would not spend money for painting any hair. Wether its permanent or wash-off paint. They would rather tear up a cheap sheet with a PERMANENT colour, make a patch and stick it on you, and if you got released, died or executed whatever, they would tear off the patch and let the next incoming prisoner inherrit your mark.
You are looking for exuses, and OK, you're welcome to, but unfortunately the reasoning you have settled with are idyllic.
There wouldn't even be a salon in there, cause as we all know.. scissors, razors are sharp weapons.
They would most certainly not give you punk rock outfit lol. to fit the male haircut. Im sorry.
You don't get any benefits in a russian gulag. End of.
Its about customizing all this to gender trenders. Making her fluid, trust me.
They should have done that from the beginning. Not take a classic old character's name and stick it on a new person.
Nevertheless. I prefer the classic Kate. Loved her to bits as she was.
I see, I am not allowed to: "not like changes"? I guess the anger you show towards me can't be "my love for the beautiful classic that once was", but hate, right? The new terminology: hatespeech: used when ever one don't agree with others opinions.
Let's agree at least, to disagree. Shall we?
You know.. the game was tagged pegi rate 3+ before.. it's not only the changes made to our beloved protagonist, it's the change of the whole game. I loved Syberia for being non -violent. A game that can be interresting and non violent at the same time, is pretty amazing. This prolouge is tagged "Mature". VIOLENCE. This alone makes this game an entirely different game.
It used to be magical and peaceful. Syberia 1 and 2 were true gems. Sitting there puzzling away, sipping to a nice warm drink, knowing that nothing is going to jump at you. Changes made all that good stuff go away. But there you have it, this is my crime: To love something that already was perfect.
Peace.
You couldn't be further away from the truth. :)
..and by the sound of your language, your lack of arguments, calling names and your anger over not being able to convince me to like something I won't, its obviously not me who are so.
Get a grip over your "feelz" will you? and take care.

Conclusion: Same as the headline and I still prefer the classic Kate :)
(Get used to it!).
In the end It became too much effort to decipher your nonsense and give a proper response so I gave up trying.
Would the Soviet Union spend money on giant clockwork mechs used to wind a train? This is the same series where a guardsman spent years of his life looking at a mangled tree he thought was a perfectly stationary enemy combatant. There's really nothing in The World Before that is so illogical that it doesn't fall well within the established eccentricity of the Syberia series thus far.
What has this got to do with the hidious changes they did to the protagonist? The main point is that its not her any more, logically or not. She has become this DontNod character. I wish she didn't.
But..
You go ahead and enjoy the changes :)
My feedback still remains the same.
I'm referencing the points you made about it. If you want to say it comes down to a matter of taste that's fine but you made other arguments as well. That's what I'm addressing.
