Fraymakers

Fraymakers

This game just keeps wasting characters.
A crossover's roster is a big part of its appeal and Fraymakers wastes it.
All these years later and all they announce are assist characters. And characters with so much moveset potential, like the recently announced Cadence.
This game just feels like more and more of a waste as time goes on.
They got access to so many indie characters and all they use them for is assist, that's not exciting.
And i can not comprehend why any of these rights holders give away there characters for nothing more then assist bloat, all they get are the scraps and Fraymakers is just scrap central. No substance, just "Here's a character ya like but ya don't actually get to play as them, now clap".

Game development takes time. Try making your own high quality character for this game, and you'll soon realize why no one in the fandom is a sprite elitist like Rivals.

I'm not joking. There is literally no other feasible way they can represent everyone's favorite IPs in a way that the game won't take decades to finish.

I call BS on that. The only way for this to be true is if the devs are lazy. And considering how long it takes them to make a single assist character i am going with they're lazy.
These are the same people behind Smash Flash and those games had bigger rosters in a shorter amount of time. They have no excuse.

Less so laziness moreso over ambition, them choosing Disney golden age tier animation, I’d imagine if they cut back on that they could’ve made more fighters in a quicker amount of time.
Believe me trying to animate a character in the Fraymakers style perfectly is NOT easy at all.

Also SSF2 had a pretty rocky development cycle too and took years to get where it is now so it seems more of an issue with how McLeodGaming operates more than anything.

SSF2 was non-profit, so they didn't need to acquire the IPs for the characters! Fraymakers IS profit, so they NEED to get permission from the original creators. Plus the Fraymakers art style is a lot more complicated than the SSF2 art style.

Fair enough. sounds like they need better management.

That is no excuse for the lack a playable characters. That is not the issue here. They already got the IPs, they just keep wasting them on assists.

I think the Fraymakers dev team is like less than 10 people or something, so I don't think it's laziness more so a lack of manpower; but I do agree that Assists reveals are not hype.

I would not say that they are wasting IP on Assists though, as Ramsey has stated being an Assist does not deconfirm you as a Character.

I hope this game gets a sponsor/ publisher or something similar to the support Rivals 2 got with Offbrand Games otherwise nothing is going to change with this update cycle- development will keep chugging along, surely but slowly, and that is quite unfortunate.

As someone mentioned earlier, the team was over-ambitious with it's features and artstyle/animation which means that the finished product promised to backers may take a significant amount of time to complete.

I am a Fraymakers fan and want this game to succeed; this isn't a hate comment- simply seeing the situation for how I see it, but I wish the team good luck.

There is no waste unless their representation feels nothing like the characters. If the assist functions in a way that feels like the character would do that or it's straight up something they do in their own game while being fluid and not forced, it's already better representation than Ganondorf and Sonic in Super Smash Bros. People are just so salty that they can't directly play as a certain character that they can't appreciate that these guys bothered to care enough about them to put them in at all.

They're also already considering promoting assist characters to full fighters some time after 1.0 releases, so don't just consider being an assist as deconfirmation for a fighter.

Animation style is definitely the reason why everything is taking so long, nonetheless the fact that they are only planning for 10 characters in the end while Rivals 2 already has 11.

I do think another issue is that some of the more well known indie characters that they have in the game like Peppino and Crewmate are only assists while some of the characters outside the top echelon of recognisability are the playable roster. Often you see in Smash that they try to make the most popular characters playable and then the more obscure ones are assist trophies.

I'm hoping this changes with the upcoming characters. Games like A Hat in Time and Celeste are certainly big enough to warrant reps in this and the big one would be Undertale or Deltarune being in this game.

I can understand your argument, but there's two issues with it.

1. Nobody said the 1.0 release of Fraymakers was gonna be the end of the game.
2. Who are you to deny lesser known IPs the rank of fighter?
be nice
