GAME DOES NOT BOOT (ALSO HAPPENS WITH NMH1)
I've never had this happen to me with a game before but the game straight up doesn't boot, it doesn't show on task manager either.
So far I've tried:
-Downloading those two DLLs I saw people sharing around and putting them in the same folder as the executable
-Run as admin
-Turn computer on and off
-deleting save folder
-turning off steam cloud
-verify integrity of files
-Uninstall and reinstall
-Crying
When I run the exe it throws an error message saying something about how it can't find the access point on SetThreadDescription on the "dynamic link library". I have no idea what those words mean but hopefully it's a clue as to what might be going wrong.
I know this game is old but in case you're wondering I have 16gb of ram and an AMD R6 graphics card and AMD 1.8ghz processor, it probably doesn't mean much, tho, it can run Devil May Cry 5 :/

I'm also having this problem. I just finished 100% of NMH1 and moved on to NMH2 but I can't get anything more than a black screen. I struggled to get my DualSense to work with the first game but while it was unresponsive I could at least see the title screen. This game essentially isn't even launching.

EDIT: I got it to work. I don't know if this is the actual solution but what I did after writing this post was restart my PC while the two DLLs were in the game folder.

EDIT 2: Well that got my hopes up. The game is back to not starting.

yeah im in same problem here.
just a question. Im having the same issue and i have a roundabout way to fix it.

Are you also using a PS4 controller. If so best way ive found is, and im not joking, close the controller before the game loads anything. Im able to play and it hasnt crashed yet. I wish they fix it soon

You're so right. It's been working ever since I did that. That's so dumb, no one would dare start the game without having the controller on first. Especially after playing NMH1, for me if the game doesn't start without the controller connected it won't work.

Sticky this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reply. Tried it and it worked. Thank you! The game crashed later as it does so I powered down my DualSense and relaunched. Game loaded. Turned on my DualSense and I'm away we go. ~MOE~

Still mad at the port though :cleanseal:

Just to ask all of you who couldn't originally boot up the game, how stable is it? Any crashes during a loading screen?

I have about 7 hours of playtime. My Steam playtime is actually 8 hours, so basically I've spent an hour of my life launching the game combined with various methods like restarting Steam, restarting my PC, verifying the game files, launching with and without those aforementioned DLLS, and fighting to make it work.

I've actually played in now 3 sessions where I basically play until the game crashes and then I call it a night. My mantra was that if the game was actually working I should play as long as possible before it decided it had enough.

With McLovin's method people should be able to play this indefinitely now, even if it crashes. My issue before was that when it crashed I had no idea when to expect to be let back in.

Anyway, I've had crashes in all kinds of situations. The Matt Helms level crashed probably 10 times in the same area (the first wide-open area with the larger enemies). Anytime Dark Side triggered the game froze, and Dark Side is scripted to roll there multiple times. It passed somehow and I kept playing.

I've had crashes entering the motel, exiting it. The first time I beat Nathan, so super early, I got my first crash and had to fight him again. I actually had the game in the background when I sent that last reply 26 minutes ago, and the game crashed when I closed the Steam overlay to get back to playing.

It's pretty sad that I can handle the crashing at this point knowing there's a way to beat the black launch screen of death. Only for Grasshopper, but still, if anything our persistence means we deserve better.

Ah, that's a shame, guess I won't replay it any time soon then.

I did not have a controller connected at any moment
