No. But in this game you have a partner who fulfills that role
If it's a remake of the genesis game that never got released in the west, you unlock upgrades to your pet that give you more navigation options, and allows you to progress in the game. You can also buy items and find upgrades of all kinds, It's definitely a metroidvania if it's really the same basic idea as the genesis version.
Although wonderboy in monster world is by far the best game in the entire series. Maybe they're leaving the best to remake last, hopefully :p
Wonder Boy in Monster Land = Monster World I
Wonder Boy III The Dragon's Trap = Monster World II
Wonder Boy in Monster World (AKA Wonder Boy V) = Monster World III
Wonder Boy Asha in Monster World (this game) = Monster World IV
There's plenty of Metroidvanias that do Zelda-like dungeons you never really have to go back to, so no.

What "plenty of metroidvanias" are you talking about, anyway?
There's keys, switches, and puzzles, though. It definitely has a non-linear level design. I think that's really what makes a Metroidvania, the level design.
The Moster World Wonder Boy games, Monster Boy, most of the Shantae series, Simon's Quest, Portait of Ruin, and even Metroid Fusion are all Metroidvanias with closed off dungeons or areas you never have to go back after completing.
I haven't played the other games you listed so I can't say about those.
The 2 games are good but different except the level design of Dragons Trap is very flat (can't blame, it's a game who was released in 1989 in master system/game gear and others (if im not wrong on the date) but still a nice little game.
Asha in Monster World is very enjoyable and very vertical, a lot of traps and cool stuff and you have still some exploration to do to get items (not very hard but its something).
I think this one is interesting especially if you want to get 100% of the stuff.
But yeah you have Monster Boy too but it's recent xd (a gem and it's metroidvania style)
Play just all of them :)
(except the first one to me, not fan of the style)
