Thank you for this suggestion! I hear it and plan to add this functionality as soon as I can!
I actually started designing this mechanic a few months ago but got sidetracked by some other features. I wanted to ask though, in my original design I was making a special chest that can be crafted from, once you unlock it (which judging by the interest for this feature could be fairly early).
Is that what you would want to see? Or would you prefer the functionality work with any chest instead?

If you click the small apron icon in the top left of the chest UI, there are settings to change if your employees can sell from a chest or not and some additional filter options to set what items they put in a container which is useful if you have crafting or gathering employees. I hope this helps!
As someone who's played MANY of these, and with a partner who's even more heavily affected by lack of quality of life like this, I cannot stress enough just how massive an improvement it is to add crafting from containers! Please make it available early, if you really, really want it to be unlocked.
I agree with this take, personally. I'd rather it be just how chests work, myself.
Glad to see some form of craft from storage is coming either way!
I will start exploring what feels good to use and what is safe in terms of performance and hopefully bring you this feature soon!
If you have more suggestions around the craft from storage, please don't hesitate to keep posting, though. I'm happy to change what I'm doing if it means making the feature better.
A setting/toggle players can choose based on preference would absolutely be ideal! I like the folks who prefer having to collect their items also retaining their preferred playstyle, rather than my preferred playstyle completely replacing theirs.
