As for what's new, I'd say the biggest thing is the jump in visual presentation and the overall quality. The UI and Menu's inside and out of battle are much more stylized and custom, whereas before it felt more stock RPG Maker.
The Battle system has had some changes. For example, now party members attack independently whereas before you'd issue commands for your entire party and then all attacks would happen. You kind of a real turn order in this one.
There's also the addition of party attack chains that can lead to some huge damage. Enemies also have this ability also which can lead to some devastating damage to your party on higher difficulties. Enemies have an armor system that the party can take advantage of and when their armor is broken they are stunned / shocked and lose their turn which can lead to some long chain attacks. Not something you'll see or use much on normal trash mobs, but on bosses it's seems it could be an important mechanic.
And as Wisdom Baby said, it's filled with a lot of animations. It's a nice games, very nice in fact. If you like these kinds of games and the first game you will not be disappointed by this at all.
I'd go straight into Apostle: Rebellion. It's completely enjoyable standalone, and the better game in my opinion. If I thought you'd get a lot out of playing the previous game before this one I'd say so, but that's just not the case here.
If you really like Rebellion and want more Apostle, then you could just as easily go back and grab the first game next time KG has a publisher sale or something. It's still one of the better RPG Maker games Kagura Games has released, with some great content in it.
how so? what makes it "the best"?
- you can create your own character
- you can select which class you play as
- the girls look visual novel style good, and not just half assed
- girls are voiced
- you can do very different h-play with the girls (slave like or loving, your choice)
- "harem" ending possible
but there is free demo for it, so just take a look yourself
The character sprites during combat also look very nice too, but thats about it.
I read reviews saying that the combat is the usual generic RPGmaker combat, and that was fine by me, but I didnt expect the game to starve me so damn much to actually get to the combat.
The first game can be summarized in alot of annoying sidequest, and going all around the map to find the girls.
Also I wish I could erase from my brain the visage of the pixel art sex scenes
Style aside, the art looks objectively worse in quality, not to mention it appears censored with mosaics. You say the art looks "visual novel style good", which I totally disagree with and would call it more of a bad "visual novel generic" than anything else. The comment of "half ***" feels like it much more applies to that game.
Actually it looks like there's a patch or something for no mosaics, but I'm seeing complaints about the poor art, and comments from people who'd rather have mosaics since the art is so bad. The one non-mosaic screen I saw was horribly bad. Lots of complaints about the H-content in general it seem.
By the way, the girls are voiced in Apostle: Rebellion. You can see the voice actors for all the main and sub heroines on the DLsite store page. I'm sure that a "Harem" ending will be possible in Apostle: Rebellion also, because all of Kamichichi's games have had it.
it has almost 600 positve reviews, no other h-game came even close to that as far i have seen it.
but if you really think the art is so ugly that you wont even try a free demo then it cant be helped.
Are we using Steam reviews as the measuring stick for how good a H-game is or not? And if you think no other H-game has even came close to 600 positive reviews on Steam then you're not paying any attention at all to what releases.
Summer Memories, which was localized by Kagura Games, has over 8,000 reviews sitting at 93% positive rating. Does that automatically mean it's an amazing game that everyone is going to like, or that it's better than something else with less reviews? Obviously not.
Kagura Games has numerous other games that are far ahead of 600 also. Not to mention that KG has it's own store and sells on every major adult store and GOG.com. So the sales of those titles are split over many different stores which means less possible reviews, whereas your best H-game ever is Steam only.
I don't need to play a demo to know that the art looks bad, and what I'd call "VN generic". I'm sure it might be a fun RPG Maker game for you and others, and I'm happy you have a game you like enough to call the "best H-game", but it's not something I would commit my valuable leisure time to based on the faults that I see.
