The New Mapping system is horrible! Give us our game back!
If you have played My Singing Monsters on PC and love the game as it was prior to the Massive update that changed out the mapping system on May 15th, please leave a comment and add to this discussion; I'm hoping the developers will take note of the disappointed fans and will change it back to the prior layout or at the very least will make it an option for PC players.

I like many others have viewed this game as a comfort game, we like how it was and it was enjoyable to play but the new set up is aggravating and frankly is bombing the game. I want to play the game as it was, I have 184 hours of play time into it and play it daily...

We the people of Steam want our version of the game back that you took away, no one asked for this massive of a change to something we truly loved and changing it into something more complicated than it needed to ever be, the load up time is doubled now and the fact that there is a load up bar just to go to the map is the worst part of all.

Developers:
Give us back our game or make our version an option, signed the dedicated fans who have spent countless hours playing and supporting MY Singing Monsters over the course of several months or years.

Notes after giving things some thought and playing the game as it is currently:

After giving the new update an actual play through without playing in anger, it isn't as bad as I first felt about it... It is technically the same game, it is hard to accept but if no other alternative is available we will either have to adapt or stop playing all together. I have invested too much time into the game to drop it all together, likely the more we play it the more it will just become the new normal... I still would love the original map to come back prior to the update but I'm addicted to the game at this point, it hits a bit different but my monsters and progress are still there...
I wish it hadn't changed I really do.

genuinely what is wrong with the new map other than the loading time.
Loading times is a big issue, previous version didn't need to load the map, it only loaded the islands, the new map need to load the map, then island, meaning that they did a poor job in optimization. I would also want to point out that previous island selector did allowed you to choose next island with the scroll-wheel, that was very handy, the new map replaced useful function to useless zoom feature and now you have to actually select every island manually.

i think it just takes getting used to. if hours played corresponds to legitimacy of opinion, im at 572 hours played. sure the wheel was nice and quick...collect, map, scroll down a tick, go, and collect all again, repeat occasionally checking the breeders. now i can see the breeders without having to load the island at all which is something ive wanted for awhile. i can also see at a glance if i missed any mines.

the few bad things i would recommend fixing would be the threshold for the money showing up on the information tab. i would like to see the mini weekend events somewhere other than hoping for a popup. for instance the ethereal event happening now.

maybe recommendations on what to fix to make it better would be more helpful than just saying you hate it.
ok, I also have a fair amount of hours in the game. The features added in the form of alerts is fine, though a little confusing regarding the Collect icon. But, overall the set up is not optimum for movement as it had been. Also, I did give it time, like two weeks. The order of the islands remains an issue for me, as does the needing to scroll up and down. I miss it being circular and quick. Definitely taking me more time to do torches for friends. I know it's just a few seconds here and there, but it adds up quickly.

you can still use the scroll wheel to select islands on the left and there is alot of positives like the little icons telling you what is done on your islands.

167 hours here and I'm genuinely really surprised that people don't like the new map as much as I do. Yes, I have my issues with it, but overall I think it's a very positive change. A feature I've thought was missing for a long time was indicators for when eggs, food, coins, etc. are ready and I think it's wonderful that now there's an indicator for everything. It's also very aesthetically pleasing and really ties the world together.

Again, I acknowledge that it has it's issues. I feel that lighting torches is quite a bit more tedious than before since you can't see everything at once and therefor seeing highlighted torches is harder, but that's just how updates are. Some good aspects, some bad.

Being unhappy with it is okay, but I feel that a lot of this hate is kind of cruel to the developers. It's clear that a lot of love, attention to detail, and lore went into this map. This has been in development for years I believe.

Yes, the additional information on what's up on the islands is nice, but the execution of the new system is poorly optimized, if at all. The load time is really bad, even off an SSD. That makes it impossible to just quickly go in and scroll through your maps to collect. I haven't timed it, but It feels like it's almost doubled the time it took to harvest all the islands. I dread going on to do that now, and that's not a good response to a "positive" upgrade. Also, the old flow of movement is gone. As far as I understand UI design, that's frowned on. Again, I like the added information, and I'm a visual person, so I like that there's more to see there. It's just SO clunky compared to the old system.

Suggestions:
* This is a PC version. Pre-load the map if possible to get rid of the load time. Most of us have the memory/processor overhead to do that. If we only had to change maps once or twice, the loading delay EVERY time wouldn't be bad, but there are a LOT of islands to go through; It adds up quickly.

* Put a button or buttons on either side of the map button on the actual island screen to go directly forward or back to the adjacent island and skip loading the map altogether if you're just collecting the coins, gems, etc...

I don't mind the change overall, but I do seriously dislike how clunky it's made switching between islands. A couple of quality of life changes to how it's implemented would make me happy.

It looks nice. It's not confusing. But a lot of people really don't like being throttled like this.

It might seem petty, but when you have literally all of the islands these additional clicks and loads add up.

There's also the time creep issue I was discussing elsewhere, where the diamond mines become harvestable at later, and later, and later increments, or when they fall out of sync with each other, and you eventually need to leave things alone for a day, if you want to cycle things back around and harvest at a sane time of the day.

I've already been doing this about once every two weeks. Not real thrilled about the prospect of having to do this more often.

I'm a "do it all once a day, in the same visit" player, on days I have to work. And my window of availability on those days, is only about two and a half hours. Being able to do things quick, is very much preferable.

So, the loading time has been patched, I admit not perfectly, but very effectively, and you have over 350 HOURS on t he game, so why are you so dead set on continuing hating this game? You can not like it, I don't care, but its not a tactic to get people addicted. IT'S A MAP. A MAP. A MENU WITH NO MEANS TO PURCHASE TRANSACTIONAL ITEMS FROM AND NO TEMPTATIONS TO DO SO. I think you just don't like the game anymore and need an excuse to stop.

I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING

Personally, i dont think it's that bad. Sure; i dont have many hours, but that's because my main account is on mobile and not steam. I think the new map is great and adds to the lore, it also lets us know where exactly every island is in the monster world and actually is a map now. Sure it's not perfect but neither was the old one. I agree with the idea to make an option to use the old map, though.

You have no idea what you talking;
Initial update had a terrible loading times, each time you had to open the map it had to load for 3-4 EXTRA seconds, that was unacceptable, now it's still not as fast as it was prior the update, but at least it's within a reasonable amount of time...
allangdc 1 jul. 2024 às 10:35
I'd give it a 6/10 due to the problems: Time to load & clicking on the island pins.
But the greatest part may be that, on the left, you can see A LOT, like gems produced, coins, shards & relics and breeding & hatching.
