So what are they used for? And what happens , if all are collected?

If you collect all 6 just before the final battle they will be inserted into a sort of gate. Choosing to interact with said gate will give you a cutscene. Besides a couple of things it is mostly there to give the final boss some buildup. But it won't change how abrupt the ending is and certain plot points unresolved.
