Is It Worth It?
I've seen this game sitting at mixed reviews for awhile. I noticed many of the reviews are due to the difficulty. Now I'm seeing they nerfed a lot of their game and it appears to be really easy?

Do you feel this game is worth a purchase? Is it better now? Or still pretty bad?

Gotcha. I figured it would be best to wait a bit longer. Seems like they're focused on fixing and still actively working on it though. That's a good thing :-)

While many of the reviews were definitely about the difficulty, very few articulated very well what their problems with the difficulties were. While some enemies were HP sponges, most of the perceived difficulty came from clunky/unresponsive controls, odd design choices regarding locking you into a massive dungeon in the first 1/4 of the game with no way of getting out, flying enemies being an absolute nightmare, stamina/class resources/class balance being out of whack, and the scarcity of healing items and checkpoints making the game a real slog to move through and killing the fun of exploration.

The patch has fixed some of those issues, albeit in -- in my opinion -- a kind of kneejerk-yet-lazy way.

I suspect that many people would have been happy with tweaks to the health of bosses, and fixed/rebalanced defensive and healing systems, but instead the devs obliterated the damage from and health of most enemies at the same time.

There are still systems in the game that are clunky even after these sweeping nerfs to all difficulty modes, and they still make the game irritating to play -- but now it is overly easy moment-to-moment while the bosses still have a lot of moments when you can't hurt them and can do massive damage to you in a second if you aren't careful. Without careful fixes to the actual problems, the game will still feel all over the place to the average player.

Don't listen to Mr. Miserable underneath your post. He's a salty sailor.

The sensible community (myself included) will say, the game is rough. It wasn't "soulslike" even before the patch. If having a dodge and a parry makes a game a soulslike, than The Legend of Zelda did souls before souls did souls...

Anyway. The story isn't compelling, the world is pretty, and the game is a bit more accessible now. I don't know if I'd recommend it given my jaded experience with the pre-patch version, but with the devs listening to feedback, this just might be a gem given some more time in the oven.

No, it isn't. Spend your money elsewhere.

If you want a relaxing metroidvania it's worth it. There's very little difficulty now on normal. The controls can feel a little wierd at the start but it's w/e after you get used to it.

despite the recent nerf, I still recommend the game.
