Extremely irritating for quadriplegic to play.
Nice looking game, but... I’m a quadriplegic that must use an “ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD and ON-SCREEN MOUSE” to play PC games.

The game is extremely irritating to play because I spend most the time switching my mouse dwell click + drag clicking settings.

Mouse scrolling should be avoided if there are no key-re-binding options. Mouse scrolling is a big problem for many quadriplegics, we need to re-bind these keys. I did notice page up/down worked but the zoom was continuous. It should be set to zoom in a certain amount per click.

Middle mouse clicking should never be used.

Shift + Ctrl + Z OR any form of 3 button holding should never be used. 2 button holding is ok.

Because PCs provide the most accessible options, the games made for PCs should be accessible too.

In general simple clicking and only one click dragging control should be used.

Let me know if you plan to fix this? If not, I will return the game.

Thanks,

Charles

Hello Redring,

I'll take this into consideration but since this would require a pretty substantial re-working of the core mechanics I don't think it'll get done for a while, since I have a long list of other features that need doing.

I recommend refunding for the time being. Sorry to disappoint you.

Check out "Bridge Constructor Portal", it has similar line building mechanics. But easier to use.

If you ever do a major game release about 22%-25% of gamers are disabled. That can break or make a company. The disabled gaming community is strong and you don't want to be on the non-accessible list. This is also a human right issue for us as well. Developers are supposed to make an effort. The way you answered the question shows me that the "OTHER" features are more important than making your game reasonably accessible. This makes me feel like you consider us as less than. I don't think this was your intention but now you know.

I'm sorry friend. I certainly don't consider anyone to be unimportant, and especially not due to being disabled. This is my first game and I really wasn't thinking about accessibility. But I truly appreciate you offering me some perspective on this and I'm definitely going to keep it in mind in the future. I'll respond to this thread again if I manage to get an accessibility update out at some point.

Oh man. That OP has annoyed me for days. Thought about just eating it and keeping it for myself, but ....

OP: The way you try to get your "demands" through just pisses me off.
You started out just fine, then went "WE ARE STRONG" on a single dude, who's just giving us a great experience, for a fair price.

Middle mouse clicking should never be used. Shift + Ctrl + Z OR any form of 3 button holding should never be used. 2 button holding is ok.
And you go on and on!

WTF? Personally I LOVE my five button mouse, I LOVE middle clicking and scrolling, and those buttons on the side. Are you mad at them too? 22-25%? So about 75% should get a inferiour experience because of that? Really?

I AM not happy about your situation, don't get me wrong about that, I wish you all the best.
But I don't like your attitude in this thread.

Of course accessibility should be encouraged, but do you realize how diverse the needs of these 20%-25% gamers are? Demand for voice input, dyslexic support, different UI scalings for sight-challenged people, epilepsy prevention when the program is running at a much higher speed than normal, a professional-approved tutorial for gamers who suffered brain damage. It's really hard for a single developer to implement all these features. Your demand is no more or less valid than all these ones.
Redring Oct 27, 2020 @ 9:15pm
Yes, I do realize how diverse the needs of those are as I have a muscle wasting disease. I have gone through life as a healthy 5 year-old to quad/vented/trachead, I’m 45 now. This is what human rights are about? We all have to work constructively together. PC computing and gaming were meant to be a great equalizer for people with disabilities. For work & play. Some game developers are already adding these options. Developers need to take this seriously, you don’t want to make an AAA+ title and then get sued. Most developers are missing the accessibility part and this should be part of their business plans. It’s good PR to be proactive and the disability community will appreciate, share and market your game. This can be all done and if developers asked us we could help too. And developers could hire a trained person with a disability to head the accessibility team. Again a human right thing, we need jobs to survive right? Do I make any sense here?

How many disabled gamers are there? 33 million in the United States alone!

AbleGamers is an organisation that advocates for disabled gamers, and it estimates there to be around 33 million gamers with disabilities in the United States alone. But recent media reports suggest that people living with a disability face barriers to entry formed by inaccessible technologies.

ShutEye_DK - You would still have your five button mouse, your middle clicking and scrolling, and those buttons on the side. We just want the option to customize the imputs. Key re-binding. I like customization do you?

Hey! My post was all about the attitude you posted. Didn't like it at first.

But you seem like a nice person. After my "assault" at you, you kept calm and reacted in a civil manner. Not all people can do that.

Of course we (as in ALL of us) should have the options open to us.

Happy gaming :)

EDIT: Quote mess-up fixed. I hope :)

I'm really surprised that the dev can't provide control options for a quadriplegic to play, just because they have other features they want to implement. Like, what? You have a REAL player who is struggling with life, and wants to be able to play your game, but you are prioritizing other features over their ability to play?

How "zen" is that?

Sorry, I know in the end this is up to you, but it just seems so...awful :(
ew lol gross :/ dering and prionicide are subhuman everyone please ignore them xd

Hi @Wiggles,

Here's some practical advice and resources to help you with making games accessible.

Game Maker's Toolkit has 7 videos about making games more accessible for disabled gamers. The episodes are high quality and contain good advice. Link to playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc38fcMFcV_vvWOhMDriBlVocTZ8mKQzR

Its impossible to cater to every kind of disability out there, but it's possible to take general steps that will help most people like:

- Subtitle all text (in-game, cut-scenes, voice barks, tutorial messages etc.)
- Allow rebinding of all keys (this helps disabled people with custom controller setups to get things working for their needs)
- Be mindful of people with vision problems (reduced vision, color blindness)
- Ensure text/user interface contrast is high enough
- Allow users to use a nice readable font, and if possible let them scale the text to a bigger size

I hope you find this helpful.

Greetings,

Goliathfan
