FFXIV is far from dead. It's the only true competitor to WoW and have far more players than most MMORPGs combined due to being out on both Playstation and PC, unless you can prove me wrong with actual data showing just how 'dead' FFXIV is, which i doubt you'll find anywhere.
Anything coming out of Perfect World Entertainment = P2W. I mean, just look at STO and Champions Online and their other games. 100% P2W BS.
Yeah, so you clearly don't know what you're talking about...
Neverwinter Online from PWE is 100% P2W..
Why the heck do you think people hoard loot boxes and spend thousands of dollars every week to open them? They do it to get the legendary mounts and other valuable and necessary items. It's the same system for STO.
The legendary mounts from these loot boxes is the META for the PVE content in Neverwinter Online, and it's the same thing with the weapons/consoles/crew members and ships in STO's loot boxes as well.
That is 100% P2W and it's also gambling, which is illegal in a lot of European countries now.
I've played both games for a very long time, so i definitely know what i'm talking about. I actually started playing STO when it released, and same for NWO.
I know it has lots of P2W elements but certainly not 100%. All things related to RNG in game is sort of gambling, you either gamble with time or with money, like you run some dungeon hundred times just to get the one thing you want, you lose time but not money. Time is money, it is the same thing.
Yes, they have updates, but they're 100% P2W, well, 90% if you look past the cosmetics.. That's just a solid, undeniable fact, because without the legendary mounts in NWO, you'll be hard pressed to get accepted into active guilds doing raids and other content. The same goes for STO because the loot box ships are so much better than anything you can ever unlock for free. Heck, even the cash shop ships are ten times better than the ones you unlock through playing the game, and finally the legendary gear/consoles etc in the STO loot boxes are the meta as well as the super rare ships, which will make it real hard for people who doesn't have any of it to find an active fleet.
I experimented with this, and the result was the same for pretty much every medium to large, active fleets. I told them i was a new player and didn't spend money in the cash shop to unlock loot boxes and never will. The reply i got from every one of them was 'No, you need to spend money once or twice per week on loot box keys', and the same BS goes for NWO as well.
However, if you're not looking to raid or do PVP in neither of the games, sure, there are options, but they're limited to small, inactive/barely active fleets/guilds in both games.
Obviously, they also sell cosmetics in both games, but that's something all F2P MMOs do, on top of their P2W elements which usually govern their cash shops.
Gameforge Take the money and run policy is the worst.
Whoever the publisher was, it would have still tanked just as massively and just as fast. No amount of advertising or a different business model would have saved it.
The game was just developed poorly by the developers and no publisher can fix that.
When the game is as stupid as this where you're forced through almost 60 minute tutorial you can't skip and quests are as brain-dead as kill 3 mobs right behind the questgiver NPC that die from 1 hit, you can't possibly hope for such a stupid game to succeed.
I've had more fun playing old grinders, like:
- Silkroad Online
- Talisman Online
- TwelveSky 2
- Metin2
- Lineage 2
- 9Dragons Online
- Kal Online
thank this, at least in those trashy Asian grinders, there is no forced tutorial and it takes a few days before the game starts feeling brain-dead you start feeling like an idiot for playing it, in SOLO - this sinks in 2 minutes into the game.
So no matter what different publisher had the game, it would still flop instantly and be shut down. If the game was at least a WoW clone (mechanics-wise and gameplay loop-wise), it might have been a bigger success. It's just a stupid game you play on mobile, the only thing it was missing was Auto Play where the game plays itself while you wonder why you even exist.
I hate mobile games and if Solo feel anything like a mobile games like you said,I wouldn't even touch it, let alone playing it everyday. I think you spend too much time on trash mobile games and they messed up your mind.
What is this BS you're saying? I don't play mobile trash games, I know they play enough to know how stupid and pointless they are. The first thing I noticed when I played this POS game Swords and Legends Online is that it treats its players like it's a mobile game and it only has Auto Play removed. It treats players like they are mentally deficient and have a very short attention span.
I play real MMORPGs, like Turtle WoW, Star Wars Galaxies Legends so I know how to tell a good MMORPG for cheap mobile trash like Swords of Legends Online.
Turtle WoW and SWG Legends are private servers. Do you know why? Because both games are good, iconic and have following large enough to have private servers, that's right, multiple private servers, WoW probably even has had and still has thousands of them between 2004 and 2023.
Swords of Legends Online will never have a private server. Do you know why? Because it's a trash game and it doesn't have a following, nobody cared to play it when it was alive, because it was bad, that's why it died. Nobody will care enough to revive it as a private server.
Even ASTA Online: The War of Tears and Winds which was objectively a better MMORPG, when it died it didn't get a private server, because it didn't have a large enough following and not enough people cared about it.
Gameforge may be a lazy and incompetent publisher, but don't be so quick to blame them for the failure of this trash game.
Who do you think would have done the game better justice? Activision? Amazon Games? EA games? Nexon? Gamigo? Perfect World Entertainment? Papaya Play? Valofe? Garena? PlayPark?
The game is just bad and that's why it failed. Gameforge made it B2P, some misguided tourists bought it because they just don't know any better, even as B2P it died, because even the misguided tourists found out how bad the game was. Then Gameforge made it F2P, so everyone who wasn't completely clueless to waste good money on such trash game finally tried it for free and they also left immediately?
Do you know what that means? The game is trash and nobody wanted to play it. Gameforge can't do anything besides advertise the gam and hold events. Unless the Chinese developer is willing to give away more of the content to the Western version of the game, Gameforge can't do anything. If the game doesn't sell well, which happened, because the game is garbage, then the Chinese developer won't be inclined to give away more of the content for the Western version, because it would be a waste of time and money. And Gameforge won't renew their contract, because it's a waste of time and money to keep dead garbage games alive.
You might want to learn something about gaming if you are new to it and 15 years old, if you are older, I feel sorry for you that you haven't learned your lesson yet.
The lesson is:
If you are determined to waste your time and money on online-only live action games, make sure you do your research and play the most popular and successful games, the ones that are the most stable and provide the best safety that they won't shut down or release stupid updates that will ruin the game and push players away.
Another option is to play single player games that offer options for:
- limited multiplayer interaction
- dedicated servers
- offline play
- single player
- bots
This way whatever trash game you chose to play, like Swords of Legends for example, there is no chance that the game you play will ever stop working.
Now run along kid, I hope the next game you find is not some dead trash like Swords of Legends Online that will die less than a year after it launched.
Turtle WoW is the worst Pserver out there. Let's get that out of the way first. It's crap.
ASTA Online wasn't a bad game, it was mismanaged by its original publisher WebZen and was never properly marketed here in the west. It was very similar to vanilla WoW in terms of mechanics apart from the cash shop which is why it was also referred to as the 'Asian World of Warcraft'. It was re-released on Steam and later shut down for unknown reasons.
Let me make sure you understand this, the same way a 5 year old would.
The Developer is not the main reason that Swords of Legends didn't make it here in the west. GameForge is the main reason that the game didn't make it here in the west, because of mismanagement and greed.
GameForge handled localization and the cash shop, not the developer, and it was due to the localization and the cash shop that eventually led to the game being shut down here in the west.
While Swords of Legends is a bad game, poorly executed in general, GameForge is the main reason for its failure in the west. It is that simple, just like GameForge have buried other mmorpg's in the past by mismanaging them.

saw the teaser for the new expansion. The new zones look nice and I wanna see more of them!
I think most of us are confident in the devs, it's Gameforge that has some apologizing to do.
Gameforge: ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the translations, half-assed the voice acting localization, is starting to hike prices in the cash shop, and are responsible for the lack of advertising that lead to the Western release having an abysmally low population.
And because of Gameforge's mistakes, I'm convinced that NA/EU SOLO is not going to last a full year.
...........................................................................................................................................................................
Well, at least Solo last longer than what he said, lol
