Why wipe after beta?
I dont get the wipe, after the beta. why this is necessary? Im thnking about buying this game, but the wipe after beta keeps me from doing it. but buying after beta is no option for me, because i would like to be there from the start.

So, why there is a wipe?

Because that's how most MMOs are. For the official launch it's all wiped and everyone starts that the beginning. Say you didn't play the beta and only started a day or two after launch, if there was no wipe you'd have people who are already way way ahead of everyone else.

A wipe makes it fair to everyone for launch. If that bothers you then stick to Roblox.

- you can get a beta key by buying the game.
- if you start 1 day after launch you are also behind.
- game is still buy to play after launch.

there is 100% no reason at all to wipe the game after launch as long as its clean servers at beta and not alpha servers getting turned into beta servers to save money.

But whats the problem being "way ahead"? at the end, there is no competition and pvp is just at max level, so whats the point? and i mean, if i will pay early, and can play early, why i cant keep my progress? i realy dont like wipes and never play games wich wipes.

Because a beta is an unfinished product.

First of all, this product is not unfinished. its out since years in china, and second, its not realy a beta, i mean, a beta usually lasts longer than a few days, its more like a preview or an purchase incentive for pre-order.

Because it's still a test where not everything might work as intended. Think of bugs, maybe glitches, etc, that could give people access to a unfair advantage.

MMORPG's are always at their best/most fun when everyone starts equal at a launch.

That being said, you're not here to have your mind changed. Saying ''i'd like to be there from the start so I won't play after wipe'' even though there is a wipe and you're literally there from the start.. is a really weird logical jump.

Not quite. We're getting less content, things are changed, translations, etc. We have a different monitization so that had to be removed as well and/or changed. They have to lock away content. Or do you think they magically have an older version ready to go?

With changes come bugs. It's also most likely a server stress test, checking how many interest there is so they can gauge how many servers they need. There's plenty of reasons to do this.

its finished since 2019.

gameforge are not devs, they are just a company that buy games from devs and then host them and make profit of other peoples work.

no single person at gameforge knows how to code something.

Do you really think that if a glitch is found, it will be found and reported by players in those few days, forwarded by the publisher to the devs in China, who will develop a patch and then apply it before the game is released? Apart from that, the game has already been running in China for years, what kind of glitches and bugs are supposed to occur, please? It is the same game, only the language has been adapted.
and i am here because i want an answer.

I think the point is mostly to have an official launch period for people to coalesces around while still being able to collect feedback right now. You could hypothetically launch an MMO with limited marketing and have people join and get weeks or months of a head start over others because marketing can't reach everyone right away. But lots of people are day 1 gamers and do treat MMOs more competitively than they should. And if they can't start near the starting line, they will just not bother.

I myself would probably love games like Final Fantasy 14. But I'm way too late to that party. I don't really like learning and discovering things about a game long after the majority of an audience has come and went. The meta is usually too well established at that point. I personally get a large sense of joy when I'm one of the few on a server who first figures out a cheesey strategy against a boss (that later gets patched out), or being one of the first to reach the level cap. Nothing quite like that feeling of trailblazing.

what is not logical about my statement please? i would like to play the game, but don't want to lose my progress, so i ask why there is a wipe, because i can't understand it logically and rationally. and that i don't play games that wipe and like to be in an mmo from the beginning, also because of the beta items, is hardly misunderstandable and an opinion you have to accept.
So, what is there not to understand about it.

A wipe is happening regardless of what you want. Every major MMO release wipes, some may have headstarts and some may not but they always wipe after the beta period ends.

It's to ensure a equal playing field and to push out the final updates to the game be it localization or bug fixes and yes these do get reported and fixed prior to launch. They are likely found in Alpha, stay there for Beta and then fixed prior to release. There's different builds for a reason.

yes, i can understand that, but then you generally shouldn't play the game in front of others, because you're not talking about personal progress, like level and items, but rather general information about the game.

apart from that, the few days don't make a difference. it might look different after years. but basically, the later you start, even if it's only a few days after launch, you're always behind in one way or another. that's not an argument to wipe for me.

To clarify here. Every major MMO usually wipes after the CBT. It's not uncommon to later have an OBT that doesn't wipe I think.

In SOLO's case. It very clearly is going through a CBT right now with it's CBT keys.

yes, and that's what i'm trying to understand. if there's a wipe because it's technically absolutely necessary, then i'd like to read the publisher's justification for it. but to me it feels like wiping because it's established, it's part of the game, and it's always been done that way, without questioning whether it's really beneficial or necessary in general,
with real betas, so if the game is still in development, I can understand that from a technical point of view without explanation, but SOLO is no longer in development and a wipe is necessary because exactly why?

I've already literally told you why, you're just ignoring it. The last part of my post addresses that there are changes to be made. It's not as simple as putting in new english text and it's done. If you refuse to accept that then there isn't anything I can tell you that you'll deem as an acceptable answer. There's more to it than simply changing language and nothing else.
