LAG. Just me? Will it get better?

The first few matches were great. Not perfect, but acceptable. After winning 3 quick matches, I did well in ranked matches. I got to 480 rank when it took a turn for the worst. First it was a Zim spin attack spammer that showed me the true fear of the lag. I lost the next few with some lives lost due to walking off stage do to delay.
Today I haven't been able to get 1 match without at least a 4-6 second delay. One had 16 seconds at least before it activated a taunt I counted for.
Spongebob is arguably the hardest opponent to face under these conditions with his range attack. I had a couple that would just spam that button knowing the delay wouldn't let me evade or block it efficiently.

Is this a common issue or is there a way to increase performance?
I have trouble with some online games, but this one is more noticeable because of how fast paced it is.

Thank you. I'll try it. I figured automatic did it to choose the best server available.

Things will get better. Servers were overloaded yesterday because everyone wanted to play all day. It's not just you

That's good to hear. I hope it gets better soon. I liked playing the online matches I did that were fast paced.

Sadly, it doesn't, sometimes you will be paired with people in other regions

Changed to window, idk what happend but games are smoother. My PC and internet arent bad either soo...
