Fallen Aces

Fallen Aces

Any Noir Film Recommendations Related to Fallen Aces ?
The Noir vibe of Fallen Aces interests me so much that I’m diving headfirst into the world of Noir, and I have to admit—I haven't watched a single Noir film before. I only know some classic titles like The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca. As this is my first time watching Noir films, can I get some recommendations for a watchlist?
Thx in advance

Chinatown, LA Confidential, The Third Man
Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, The Big Clock, The Enforcer, The Big Heat, Underworld USA. Also Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Two Jakes, as these two form a second and third part of a nominal trilogy started with Chinatown.

Might be a bit outside of traditional noir canon, but since Fallen Aces also has strong comic book vibes, I feel no shame suggesting Dark City (has to be the Director's Cut, though).

The intro was a homage to Dark City

Well, now I feel kinda dumb because I didn't catch that at all, but it does fit pretty well when I think back to it :episweat:

The original Scarface (1932) is great (Hey, it's a machine gun you can carry like a baby!) The scenes of them shooting up buildings aren't special effects, they're actually magdumping the places with live ammo from real Thompsons. They hired WWI Army vets to handle the guns to make sure this was done 'safely,' and someone on the production team still lost an eye in the process from shrapnel. You also gotta check out Little Ceasar (1931) which first launched the prototypical 'Italian mobster accent' into pop culture.

They Made Me a Criminal (1939) where the main character is a boxer, so similar to Mike's background. Also at one point in the movie he says "palooka" which to me is icing on the cake.

Out of the Past. Robert Mitchum is the baddest noir detective. Bogart is an altar boy compared to Mitchum.

If you're a reader, don't sleep on James Ellroy. "The Big Nowhere" is the noiriest noir that ever noired.

Also Dashiell Hammett's "Red Harvest" is the bible of hardboiled crime fiction.

Mulholland Falls is pretty dope. Another one that is more action then Noir is Gangster Squad.

I'm an enthusiast of the genre. Some of my favorites are Out of the Past, Asphalt Jungle, Born to Kill, The Big Sleep, The Street With No Name, Lady in the Lake (it's essential an FPS), Call Northside 777 and Laura.
