how do I heal?

I just picked this up, it looks great, but I have no idea how to heal. I drank a coke and smoked a ciggarette, coke gave me a little health, but surely that's not it?

You can find healing kits and pain killers. If you hold E you'll use them immediately, otherwise you can pick them up and they take an inventory slot.

Is there a more consistent way to set up finishers/cause the dazed state that I missed? It's felt rather random no matter what I try, and being able to set it up on purpose would've made some parts not so harrowing. (That's also made me button-mash through a few that I could have really used, because I wasn't expecting it to pop.)

I was at 10 health by the time I finished the first mission, on medium difficulty. Am I just bad at this game then? found no health kit.

Not to be rude but, yeah kinda. But there's nothing wrong with that. Just makes improving all the more satisfying.

This game is extremely exploration-heavy. Not sure how you're playing, but if you're just barging from one fight to the next without much exploration, I can see how you'd end up in that scenario. There's usually painkillers/food/medkits lying around in harder-to-find areas.

if you can daze an enemy and do a finisher it gives you quite a bit of health
