Is this worth a buy over City Skylines
Have the former but not sure if this game is as good or detailed...

Can someone who owns both advise if this is worth a buy for someone who owns and plays Skylines extensively?

Thanks

I would say this game is nothing like city skylines. But I would say it is worth it to get. Especially if you liked older city games like SimCity 3000 or Rise of the Middle Kingdom. Its about resource management and influencing how your city will develop. Then games like City Skylines and Simcity 4 where its more about traffic, education and healthcare management.

If you are into city builders and you are looking for just one game, go cities skylines. Even though it too has some resource management, it's not like Urbek city builder. This in some ways reminds me of the Caesar line of building games. It's not your traditional city builder at all. Which is both good and bad. I just got it and have to say I'm mixed on how I feel. But I also have Cities Skylines and don't play that mostly because of the resource management aspect. I like a game like SimCity where I only really have money to worry about, then just the normal city issues.

On the positive side, this game is much cheaper. It also claims to have mod support, but no steam workshop yet. So perhaps in time.

If I had only three letters to write a review of Urbek, it would be: fun.

Cities: Skylines is about managing traffic and making sure people can get where they need to go. (Some would say it's instead about building a neat bonsai garden.)
Urbek is about managing resources and making sure people and industries are in balance at all times.

In CSL you don't manage resources.
In Urbek you don't manage traffic.

Also, Urbek is on a hard square grid. And the graphics are made of voxels. And there's not 100 DLCs for Urbek, not yet.

They don't have much in common. CS fans wouldn't necessarily like this one and vice versa. It's not a useful point of reference.

Cities Skylines has build freedom; this does not. Urbek is more like buying a 5000 piece puzzle; not a city building sim .

I agree. As an alternative though...Vex

Agreed, to a point. I'm less than 20 hours in so maybe I'm seeing things wrong but so far I can imagine building different types of cities so there's some build freedom there. To me it's more like a 5000 piece puzzle where the pieces are unlocked through progression and you can choose which ones to use or not use. The freedom also comes in choosing which upgrade paths to take. I'm sure there's more but like I said I'm new so plenty more to discover yet.

It feels more like a puzzle than a city builder, you have to build things in specific proximity and quantities to evolve. I'm just playing through the tutorial and looks like 25% of people that bought the game never got that far.. so I guess it's not for everyone. I'm enjoying it but it's very low-key.

The paths add replay ability.. there's even a path for what would normally be considered failing and you can intentionally build high crime low income areas.
